First decide whether you want rankings in Twitch chat or a leaderboard panel visible in the video. Twitch has built-in chat leaderboards for Top Gifters, Top Cheerers, and Top Clippers. To put a custom panel on the video, add a compatible provider’s widget to OBS as a Browser Source, then position it in your scene.
Choose the kind of leaderboard you need
A chat leaderboard and an on-video overlay are different features. Twitch’s native leaderboards appear at the top of the chat window; they are not composited into the broadcast. A custom overlay is part of the video layout and can be positioned in the scene, but its data and supported platforms depend on the widget provider.
| Option | Where viewers see it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Twitch native leaderboard | At the top of Twitch chat | Choose among Top Gifters, Top Cheerers, or Top Clippers. |
| Provider widget in OBS | In the broadcast video | Confirm the widget tracks the intended platform and ranking metric. |
| Stream Labels | In the broadcast, as selected labels | A label can show a selected supporter value, but is not necessarily a ranked board of multiple supporters. |
Twitch describes its leaderboards as recognition for gifting, cheering, or creating top clips. See the Twitch Leaderboards Guide.
Enable a Twitch leaderboard in chat
- Open Twitch Creator Dashboard settings and find Monetization → Community → Leaderboards. If the menu is hard to locate, search settings for “Leaderboard Settings.” Twitch’s documented labels and navigation can change.
- Select the category that matches what you want to recognize: Top Gifters, Top Cheerers, or Top Clippers.
- Enable the leaderboard if you want it shown. It appears at the top of chat, not over the video.
Twitch’s guide documents these categories and the chat placement. It does not establish every account eligibility requirement or every available setting, so check the options shown in your own Creator Dashboard rather than assuming a particular setting is available.

Add a custom leaderboard panel to OBS
1. Choose a widget that tracks the right activity
Pick a provider that explicitly supports both your streaming platform and the ranking data you want. For example, Stream Kit documents a Leaderboard overlay type, but that does not establish that every metric or platform is supported. Check the provider’s current widget details before building your scene.
2. Copy the widget URL
Configure the leaderboard through its provider and copy the resulting widget or overlay URL. Streamlabs documents this URL-based workflow for widgets used in compatible broadcast software in its Sub Goal Widget setup guide.

3. Add it as a Browser Source in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene where the panel should appear.
- In the Sources dock, choose + and add a Browser source. Create a new source or select an existing one as appropriate.
- Paste the provider’s widget URL into the source’s URL field. Set the width and height using the provider’s instructions and the dimensions of your OBS canvas; there is no universal leaderboard size.
- Confirm the source, then drag and resize it in the preview. Keep it clear of important video content and other on-screen elements.
- Check the preview before going live. Verify that the panel loads and that it shows the intended metric and platform.
OBS explains Browser Sources as part of its stream layout tutorial. If the widget provider updates its URL or setup instructions, use its current directions.
Alternative: install an overlay in Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs documents a workflow in Streamlabs Desktop for browsing and selecting an overlay, choosing components, and installing it into a scene collection. It also describes an OBS plugin path and importing a scene collection. The exact available overlays and controls depend on the current catalog; see Streamlabs’ overlay setup guide.

When a supporter label is enough
If you only need to show one selected recent or top supporter value, a Stream Label may be simpler than a multi-person leaderboard. Streamlabs documents adding labels in Streamlabs Desktop or OBS Studio in its Stream Labels setup guide. Check whether the available label matches the activity and ranking period you intend to display; a single label is not automatically a ranked board.
Check these details before going live
- Placement: Decide whether the information belongs in chat or in the video. A Twitch native leaderboard is chat-only.
- Metric: Verify whether the widget ranks gifts, cheers, clips, followers, points, or another activity. Do not infer a metric from the word “leaderboard.”
- Platform: Confirm that the provider tracks activity from the platform where your audience participates.
- Display control: A Browser Source lets you position the widget in the OBS scene; the provider determines its data and styling controls.
- Preview: Check loading, readability, and overlap in the scene preview before starting the broadcast.
The documented setup is software configuration; these sources do not establish that special hardware or a physical purchase is required.

Troubleshooting
- The panel is blank: Recheck the copied URL and the provider’s setup requirements. Confirm the Browser Source dimensions and whether the provider requires additional configuration.
- The wrong activity appears: Return to the widget’s provider settings and verify the selected metric and platform. A similarly named widget may track a different activity.
- You cannot see the panel in Twitch chat: A custom OBS Browser Source appears in the video, not as a Twitch chat leaderboard. Enable one of Twitch’s native categories in Creator Dashboard settings if that is what you need.
- The panel covers content or is hard to read: Resize and reposition the Browser Source in the OBS preview, then check the layout at your stream canvas size.
- A label does not show a ranked list: Stream Labels can present selected supporter values; use a provider widget that explicitly offers a ranked leaderboard if you need multiple ranked entries.
