The native YouTube Giving Donate button is available only to eligible channels and appears after the fundraiser’s start date; it is not the same as Super Chat or a creator-set goal overlay.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
YouTube’s stated requirements are that your channel be based in a supported location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, be in the YouTube Partner Program, and not be designated Made for Kids. YouTube notes that some channels may see the feature even if they do not meet the published criteria, so check YouTube Studio > Earn > Giving rather than treating the list as the only access test. Requirements and availability can change; consult YouTube’s YouTube Giving FAQ for current details.
Supported locations listed by YouTube
The current FAQ lists Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. If your channel is based elsewhere, the native feature may not be available.
The nonprofit must also qualify
YouTube Giving fundraisers support eligible US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities. YouTube says a nonprofit must be requested by a creator, belong to Google for Nonprofits, opt into online fundraising through GuideStar, and comply with YouTube policies. Private foundations are not currently supported. If a charity is missing, it may not meet the requirements, may be listed under another public name, or may have opted out. Create a fundraiser and attach your scheduled stream
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Earn > Giving, then select Get started > Create a fundraiser. If Giving is not shown, confirm channel eligibility and availability for your location.
- Choose an available nonprofit. If it is not listed, use the nonprofit request option and check that it meets YouTube’s requirements.
- Enter the fundraiser title and description, and add collaborators if appropriate. Set a goal amount and duration if you want them; YouTube says these details can be changed later.
- Add the scheduled live stream that should display the fundraiser.
- Review the campaign details and select Publish.
You can also configure a fundraiser while setting up a stream: open Live Control Room > Advanced Settings and follow the fundraiser options there. YouTube’s current instructions are in its YouTube Giving setup guide.
What viewers see and how the goal works
Once the fundraiser’s start date arrives, a Donate button can appear on the video’s watch page. If live chat is enabled, viewers can also donate through Live Chat Donations. YouTube says this is the current live-chat fundraising mechanism; older instructions referring to “Super Chat for Good” are outdated.

The goal amount and duration belong to the fundraiser. The total raised and progress bar reflect donations across participating channels and videos, not only the stream you attached. In YouTube Studio’s Giving area, you can edit campaign details, change the goal, or remove the fundraiser.
YouTube says it partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute donations. Its FAQ states: “100% of the money you donate will go to the nonprofit. YouTube also covers credit card transaction fees.” YouTube says distribution is typically monthly, or annually if less than $10 was raised. These are YouTube’s stated handling terms; check the current FAQ for any updates.

Why the Donate button may be missing
- The start date has not arrived: the button becomes visible only after the fundraiser’s start date. Check the schedule and confirm the fundraiser was published.
- The stream was not attached: edit the fundraiser in the Giving tab and confirm the scheduled live stream is included.
- The content is designated Made for Kids: YouTube removes the Donate button for content with that designation. Check the audience setting in Studio.
- Live chat or mobile display conditions are not met: Live Chat Donations require live chat to be enabled. On mobile, YouTube says the device must be in portrait orientation to see the chat donation control. The watch-page Donate button is a separate placement.
- The feature or charity is unavailable: verify channel location and eligibility, and check that the nonprofit qualifies and is available in YouTube’s selection tool.
If YouTube Giving is unavailable
YouTube for Nonprofits suggests linking an external fundraiser from a video end screen for creators who cannot use YouTube Giving; examples include GoFundMe and JustGiving. This sends viewers away from YouTube to another service. It is not a native YouTube Giving campaign and does not create an in-chat Donate button. Check the external provider’s current terms and eligibility before directing viewers there.
