To watch American Airlines movies, turn on Airplane Mode, turn Wi‑Fi back on, join the aircraft’s AA-Inflight network, open aainflight.com, and select View free entertainment. Choose a title and press play. You normally do not need to buy an internet package just to use the free onboard entertainment library.
What aainflight.com does
aainflight.com is American Airlines’ onboard connectivity and entertainment portal. It is designed to work after your device joins the aircraft’s Wi‑Fi system; it is not a normal public streaming website.
- Wi‑Fi network: The signal shown in your device’s Wi‑Fi list, usually AA-Inflight or a similar American Airlines label.
- Portal: The browser page at aainflight.com.
- Entertainment: American’s onboard movies, TV, music, podcasts, games and related content.
- Internet access: A separate service for web browsing, messaging and other online activity. It may be free for qualifying AAdvantage members or sold as a paid plan.
American’s connection instructions are at entertainment.aa.com/en/how-to-connect.
Prepare before boarding
- Charge your phone, tablet or laptop.
- Pack wired or Bluetooth headphones and follow crew instructions about their use.
- Download any essential work or backup entertainment in advance; onboard service can be intermittent.
- The American Airlines app is optional for free entertainment. American’s support page says no app download is required: support.aainflight.com/app/home.
- Check the expected catalog with American’s What’s on my flight feature at entertainment.aa.com/en/faq. Listings are flight- and aircraft-dependent.
Watch on a phone or tablet
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Turn Wi‑Fi back on while leaving cellular service disabled.
- Open your device’s Wi‑Fi settings and select AA-Inflight, or the American Airlines network displayed onboard.
- Wait for the captive portal to appear. If it does not, open Safari, Chrome or another browser.
- Type aainflight.com in the address bar.
- Choose View free entertainment or the entertainment icon.
- Open Movies, select a title and press play.
- If the portal offers paid Wi‑Fi plans, do not purchase one merely to reach the free movie catalog.
Button names and the visible network label can differ by aircraft and portal version. Entertainment may not activate until the aircraft reaches 10,000 feet, according to American’s entertainment guidance: entertainment.aa.com/en/how-to-watch.

- Open a browser and visit aainflight.com if automatic redirection does not occur.
- Select the entertainment area, choose a movie or TV program and start playback.
You do not need the American Airlines mobile app for this laptop path. Stow a laptop whenever the crew instructs you to do so, including required safety periods.
Do you have to pay for Wi‑Fi?
No—not to watch American’s free onboard movies and TV when that entertainment service is available. The entertainment catalog and general internet access are separate. American’s support documentation confirms that a paid Wi‑Fi session is not required for free entertainment: support.aainflight.com/app/home.

| Watch American’s onboard movies and TV | No, when the aircraft offers the service. |
| Browse the general web | It depends on the flight, eligibility and available plan. |
| Use qualifying free high-speed Wi‑Fi as an AAdvantage member | May be available on eligible aircraft and routes after login. |
| Use Netflix, Hulu or another outside service | May require internet access and can be affected by service restrictions. |
| Use a seatback entertainment screen | Free where a working screen is installed. |
American currently offers free high-speed Wi‑Fi sponsored by AT&T on most domestic flights and select international flights for eligible AAdvantage members, subject to aircraft and route availability. The program’s May 2026 announcement is at news.aa.com. That offer concerns internet access; it is not a requirement for opening free entertainment.
Paid plans are separate. American advertises availability on most routes for as little as $10, but the actual price depends on the flight and plan. Monthly and annual subscriptions may support up to two devices. Check aa.com/wifi or American’s Wi‑Fi packages page for current terms.

Outside streaming services
Netflix, Hulu and similar services generally need internet access and may not work reliably even when a Wi‑Fi package is available. American describes Wi‑Fi as supporting streaming on some flights, but that does not make every service guaranteed: aa.com connectivity information.

Troubleshooting
The American network is not listed
- Confirm Airplane Mode is on and Wi‑Fi is back on.
- Refresh the Wi‑Fi list and look for an alternate American Airlines label.
- Forget and rejoin the network.
- The system may not be active yet, or the aircraft may lack compatible Wi‑Fi or personal-device entertainment.
- Ask a flight attendant whether Wi‑Fi is available and which network name to use.
You are connected, but the portal does not open
- Open a browser manually and enter aainflight.com.
- Temporarily close a VPN or network-filtering app.
- Disable Private Relay or similar privacy-routing features if they prevent captive-portal detection.
- Forget the network, reconnect and try another browser.
- Toggle Wi‑Fi off and on instead of repeatedly refreshing a stalled page.
These privacy-setting steps are troubleshooting options, not stated American requirements.
The portal opens, but a movie will not play
- Wait until the aircraft is above 10,000 feet; entertainment may be unavailable during boarding, taxi, takeoff and initial climb.
- Return to the portal home page and select View free entertainment again.
- Try another title and restart the browser.
- Check that playback is not blocked by browser settings, content restrictions or a low battery.
- Ask the crew whether the entertainment system is operating.
You reach a payment screen
The portal combines entertainment and internet options. Go back and select View free entertainment rather than View Wi‑Fi plans if movies are your only goal. Payment details are not needed for the free catalog.
Your AAdvantage login fails
Login is mainly relevant to qualifying free internet. Verify your username or AAdvantage number, use the browser portal, and reset your password before travel if necessary. You can still try free entertainment without buying internet. Purchase a plan only when unrestricted internet access is actually needed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsService stops during the flight
Reopen aainflight.com, rejoin the network and try another title. Temporary system or aircraft issues can interrupt playback; crew members can confirm whether the onboard system is available.
Quick Recap
What changed since 2023?
The core method—join the aircraft Wi‑Fi and open aainflight.com—remains the practical route to onboard entertainment. However, current portal labels, aircraft coverage and free-internet eligibility should not be treated as identical to a 2023 guide. American’s 2026 AT&T-sponsored AAdvantage Wi‑Fi program added a current free-internet option on qualifying flights, while free entertainment remains a separate service. Use the current official instructions above when flying now rather than relying on old pricing or coverage claims.
Quick checklist
