No Doubt’s Coachella 2024 reunion came together quickly, Gwen Stefani said in a January 2024 interview. Seeing fans’ excitement online helped inspire the band, though at the time Stefani said they had not decided what would come after the performance.
How did the No Doubt reunion happen?
No Doubt’s Coachella 2024 appearance was announced as the band’s first live show together since 2015. Before the lineup announcement, the group teased the reunion in a short video set to “Just a Girl.” As NME reported on January 27, 2024, the clip showed Stefani looking at artwork she had made for The Beacon Street Collection, texting bassist Tony Kanal, then joining a group video call where the band agreed to “do a show.”

Stefani described the pace of the decision in an interview with People, as quoted by NME: “It just happened so fast, and that’s my favorite kind of thing to happen.” She added that watching fans’ excitement online was inspiring the band. NME’s January 27, 2024 report recounts the announcement and her comments.
What Stefani said the band hoped to do at Coachella
In that January interview, Stefani said the group had not worked out its next steps. She framed Coachella as an opportunity to perform No Doubt’s songs and reconnect with the audience: “It’s just going to be cool. It’s just going to be: Get up there and do what we always do, which is play our music and try to connect and be so grateful that we got this amazing career that we never expected to have.” These were her expectations before the 2024 performance, not a statement about the band’s current touring plans.

The reunion’s place in No Doubt’s album history
At the time of the January 2024 coverage, No Doubt’s most recent full-length album was Push and Shove (2012), following Rock Steady (2001). That chronology helps explain the distance between the band’s earlier recording era and its Coachella return; it does not, on its own, establish what the members planned to record or perform afterward.

In March 2024, NME reported that No Doubt were rehearsing for Coachella. Stefani spoke about memories returning at the rehearsal site, a later reflection distinct from her January comments about how the reunion began. The January interview captures the moment the band agreed to reunite; later reports describe preparation for the show.
