How are the Kardashians connected to O.J. Simpson?
The connection began years before the 1994 killings. Robert Kardashian and Simpson first met in 1969, according to an ABC News Australia retrospective. Their relationship grew into a long friendship and social and business association. Robert was with Simpson when Simpson met Nicole Brown in 1977, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Robert married Kris Houghton, later known as Kris Jenner, in 1978. Simpson was an usher at their wedding. By the time the criminal case began, Robert and Kris had divorced, and they found themselves on opposing sides of a case involving people they both knew.

Was Robert Kardashian O.J. Simpson’s lawyer?
Robert reactivated his law license and joined Simpson’s defense team. His role included strategy and liaison work between Simpson and the lawyers. In a 1994 Los Angeles Times interview, he said: “I know O.J. better than anyone on the legal team. There are so many things I know about his personality. My job is really strategy and liaison between the lawyers and O.J.”
Robert also became a public intermediary during the events of June 17, 1994. Simpson was due to surrender, but left Robert’s home and became the subject of a televised slow-speed pursuit. Robert read Simpson’s statement to reporters and tried to reach him by phone.

What was Kris Jenner’s connection to Nicole Brown Simpson?
Kris was close friends with Nicole Brown Simpson. She later recalled that Nicole had expressed fear about Simpson. ABC News reported Jenner’s recollection in 2015, including her account that Nicole had said: “He’s going to kill me and he’s going to get away with it.” This is Jenner’s later recollection of what Nicole told her or other friends, not a court finding or trial testimony.
Jenner said she believed Simpson was guilty and later expressed regret about not having done more. Her friendship with Nicole put her in stark contrast with Robert, who worked on Simpson’s defense.

How did the case affect the Kardashian children?
The children knew Simpson and Brown socially and reportedly called them “Uncle O.J.” and “Auntie Nicole.” The family conflict was not abstract: Robert brought Kim and Kourtney to court at least once, the Los Angeles Times reported, and Kim Kardashian later described feeling caught between her parents’ opposing positions.
Their experience shows how the case reached beyond the courtroom and into a family already connected to both Simpson and Brown. It does not establish a legal conclusion about Simpson’s guilt.
What were the criminal and civil case outcomes?
The two verdicts came from separate proceedings and should not be conflated.
- Criminal trial: Simpson was acquitted on October 3, 1995. An acquittal means the prosecution did not establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt; it is not the same as a civil finding.
- Civil case: In February 1997, a jury found Simpson liable for the deaths and awarded the victims’ families $33.5 million, according to the Associated Press. This civil judgment did not change the criminal verdict.
Were the Kardashians related to O.J. Simpson?
No. Their connection was through friendship, marriage and the trial, not family by blood. Rumors that Simpson was Khloé Kardashian’s biological father are not supported by reliable evidence in the accounts cited here; the available account explicitly says there was no genetic tie.
