Sydney Sweeney has described her feelings about intimate scenes as dependent on the production: she felt able to set boundaries on Euphoria, but has also recounted a separate, unnamed set where she felt distressed and unable to speak up. For her, the difference has involved whether nudity serves the story, how clearly scenes are discussed and choreographed, and whether performers can say no or ask for changes.
Why her experience has not been the same on every set
In a 2022 interview with The Independent, Sweeney said she did not feel uncomfortable filming intimate scenes on Euphoria. She also described a different, unnamed production where she felt uncomfortable with people on set and did not feel able to speak up. She called that experience distressing. The production was not identified in the interview, so it should not be attributed to a particular film or series.
That contrast is central to her account: the presence of nudity alone does not explain whether a scene feels acceptable to her. Communication, trust, the scene’s purpose and her ability to set limits all matter.
On Euphoria, she said she could ask for changes
Sweeney said she asked creator Sam Levinson to remove some shirtless moments she felt were unnecessary for her character, Cassie. As she put it, “When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.” Her account describes an ability to raise concerns and have scenes reconsidered, rather than an expectation that every scripted moment had to be filmed as written.

A newer detail about Euphoria Season 3 comes from Levinson, not a new direct interview with Sweeney. In a 2026 report, Variety Australia quoted Levinson recalling that he considered avoiding nudity for Cassie’s OnlyFans storyline, and that Sweeney pushed back, asking why the show would “skirt around it.” This is Levinson’s recollection of their conversation; it should not be presented as Sweeney’s own newly published statement.
She has described intimate scenes as planned work
Discussing The Voyeurs in 2021, Sweeney said she looked at scripts to make sure nudity was not included without a reason. She described the intimate scenes as carefully considered, and noted that an intimacy coordinator was involved in the choreographed romantic scenes. “It was all very thought out and considerate,” she told The Guardian.

She has also stressed that what appears romantic onscreen is technical to film. In a recap of her Cosmopolitan interview, ELLE quoted her saying, “When you film one of these scenes, it is so technical and so not romantic.” An intimacy coordinator and choreography can help make expectations clearer, but they do not erase the need for communication or an actor’s ability to raise a boundary.
In the 2021 Guardian interview, Sweeney said she had worked with an intimacy coordinator on every project up to that point and hoped more productions would use them. That is a statement about her experience as of 2021, not evidence that every later production she worked on had one.

Her concerns extend to how audiences treat nudity
Sweeney has criticized what she sees as a gendered double standard: in her view, men may receive praise for onscreen nudity while women are judged differently. “When a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise. But the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different,” she told The Independent. This is her perspective on public reaction, not a quantified finding about the industry.
She has also objected to the circulation of screen grabs from Cassie’s scenes on social media. The Independent reported that she described that sharing as distressing and disrespectful. The circumstances of filming and the treatment of images afterward are separate issues: feeling comfortable with a scripted scene does not mean welcoming unauthorized circulation of images taken from it.

Has her view changed over time?
A 2025 Marie Claire UK recap of comments to W Magazine attributed to Sweeney the words “I don’t get nervous.” The recap linked that confidence and self-awareness to her experience on Euphoria. Read alongside her earlier interviews, the comment suggests greater ease with this kind of work—not that every scene or production feels identical to her.
Her public comments point to a project-by-project view: she has spoken positively about considered scenes and being able to advocate for changes, while also describing a separate set where she felt unable to do so. Her remarks about Season 3, meanwhile, are reported through Levinson’s recollection, not a direct statement from her in the source cited here.
