Speaking to GamesRadar+, Ritchson said that after finishing Reacher Season 3, he thought he had just shot the hardest project he had worked on. He singled out a three-week filming period for an episode-long continuous fight sequence with Olivier Richters. Then came War Machine: “every day was a unique kind of physical challenge” that left him “drained in the best way.” He concluded that the film “took it to another level.”
His comparison supports a straightforward interpretation: experience performing demanding action on Reacher preceded the film, while War Machine tested him in new ways. It does not establish that the series was formal preparation, or that it caused his casting.

Amazon says each Reacher season adapts one Lee Child book, and Season 3 adapts the seventh novel, Persuader. That crime-story foundation is a sharp contrast with War Machine’s science-fiction survival premise. The film’s official logline describes the last stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection turning into a fight for survival against an “unimaginable threat.”
