Rachel Zoe built her public-facing fashion business from a career that began behind the scenes: she worked in fashion editorial, moved into freelance celebrity styling, and then expanded into television, design, books, and digital media. The ventures that carry her name have not all remained under the same ownership. In 2018, Bustle Digital Group acquired The Zoe Report; a 2026 interview reports that investment firm Gordon Brothers took a majority stake in her namesake lifestyle brand in 2025, while Zoe continued in creative and board roles.
How Rachel Zoe got her start in fashion
Zoe’s account of her career begins at YM, where she worked as a fashion assistant producing and styling photo shoots. She says she left after becoming senior fashion editor because the salary was small, and chose freelance styling without clients already lined up. She had built relationships with publicists, agents, and managers, however, and says those contacts helped her find work. In her retrospective account, early music clients included the Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias, Jessica Simpson, and Britney Spears. Zoe’s first-person account describes her recollection rather than an independently audited client history.
Styling made her expertise visible to celebrity clients and the public, while also giving her a foundation to build on. In a later career essay, she wrote, “I knew I had to continuously reevaluate my role and push myself out of my professional comfort zone.” The essay frames her progression from stylist into editing, design, television, and a larger brand.
How television expanded her visibility
The Rachel Zoe Project brought audiences into the work and business infrastructure behind fashion styling. Bravo’s profile presented Zoe as a stylist and designer expanding into a womenswear collection, accessories, a celebrity styling department, digital media, and a blow-dry salon. The show made that expansion part of her public story; the profile does not establish whether those ventures were profitable.

From styling to a fashion collection
Rachel Zoe Creations says the Rachel Zoe Collection launched in 2011, with jewelry and accessories following in 2012. The company’s current About page says the collection is licensed across more than 40 categories, including apparel, home, handbags, luggage, fragrance, eyewear, and children’s and baby products. That is a company-reported licensing figure, not a claim that Zoe personally manufactures every item.
The collection is one part of a broader personal brand, but it should not be conflated with The Zoe Report. The distinction became especially clear in 2018, when the publication was acquired while the announcement described the collection and Box of Style as separate businesses.

The Zoe Report: from newsletter to acquired publication
The Zoe Report grew from a newsletter into a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle publication. Bustle Digital Group announced that it acquired the publication effective April 1, 2018, with Zoe continuing as founder and editor-at-large. The announcement described The Zoe Report as joining BDG, while Rachel Zoe Collection and Box of Style remained separate businesses at that time.
BDG’s 2018 release said The Zoe Report had over 2 million email subscribers and over 14 million monthly users worldwide at the time of the deal. Those are historical figures, not current audience numbers. The same release’s figure of 80 million unique visitors per month referred to BDG’s total reach, not The Zoe Report alone. A September 2026 interview says Zoe remains involved with the publication as founder and editor-at-large.

Books and other media
Bravo confirms that Zoe wrote two New York Times bestselling books. The Zoe Report identifies them as Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour and Living in Style: Inspiration and Advice for Everyday Glamour. Her career essay also points readers to Gillian Zoe Segal’s Getting There: A Book of Mentors for more of her story. Current listings and availability may vary.
Her media work has continued beyond television and print. Rachel Zoe’s brand About page names her podcast Climbing in Heels and describes her as chairwoman of Rachel Zoe Ventures.

Rachel Zoe’s reported roles and brand ownership in 2026
A September 21, 2026 interview reports that Gordon Brothers took a majority stake in Zoe’s namesake lifestyle brand in 2025. It says Zoe serves on the brand’s board and as chief creative officer. The same interview describes her as chair of Rachel Zoe Ventures, style director for What Goes Around Comes Around, chief color director for Essie, and a cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. These are roles reported as of that interview date and may change.
The different pieces of the story have distinct business identities: Zoe’s personal brand, the licensed Rachel Zoe Collection, and The Zoe Report, which BDG acquired in 2018. The available sources establish those changes in ownership and roles, but do not provide audited figures for revenue, profit, valuation, or Zoe’s net worth.
