Nick Jonas says he manages type 1 diabetes with frequent glucose monitoring, while accepting that his body can still respond unpredictably. In a September 26, 2026, Parade interview, he also described the regular rhythm of touring, support from family, exercise and therapy as parts of his life with diabetes. His account is personal, not a treatment plan for other people.
How Nick Jonas describes managing diabetes now
In the 2026 interview, Jonas said he frequently checks a Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor. Having glucose information available helps him, but it does not make every response predictable. “My body is just going to react in certain ways that are a little unpredictable,” he told Parade.
That distinction matters: monitoring gives him information, not certainty. The interview describes his experience and does not establish that the same device or routine is right for someone else.
How touring fits into his routine
Jonas described touring as a mix of changing cities and a recurring schedule: he performs three to four times a week. He said that structure is helpful for him physically and emotionally. The number refers to the schedule he described in the 2026 interview, not a general recommendation about exercise or performance for people with diabetes.

His diabetes technology has changed over time
Jonas’s interviews describe different tools at different points in his life. They should be read as a timeline, not combined into one unchanging routine.
| Period | What Jonas described |
|---|---|
| 2005, age 13 | Jonas has said he was diagnosed while touring with his brothers. His brothers noticed weight loss and persistent thirst; he was hospitalized. His 2011 congressional testimony and a Beyond Type 1 retrospective recount the diagnosis. |
| Early management, described in 2011 testimony | He said he began with injections, then switched to an insulin pump because injections were difficult on the road. At that time, he described checking glucose by finger stick as often as 12 times a day. These are historical details, not current guidance. U.S. Government Publishing Office hearing transcript, March 17, 2011. |
| By October 2023 | A STAT interview recounted changes between injections and pump use, followed by his adoption of continuous glucose monitoring after initial apprehension. STAT described him then as a Dexcom spokesperson. |
| September 2026 | Jonas told Parade that he uses a Dexcom G7 and checks it frequently. |
In his 2011 testimony, Jonas cautioned that “technology has made it much easier to manage my diabetes, technology is not a cure.” His comments underline the role tools can play in his own care without suggesting they eliminate the demands or uncertainty of living with diabetes.

What his story can—and cannot—tell readers
Jonas’s public accounts show how his own management has evolved and how he balances diabetes with work, family and emotional health. They do not compare devices, establish a universal exercise or diet approach, or replace advice from a person’s diabetes care team. The suitable monitoring and treatment choices depend on individual clinical needs, preferences and access.
