No reliable public record in the cited sources states how much each of Bing Crosby’s children inherited. A 1977 newspaper report estimated Crosby’s wealth at $40 million to $70 million, but that was not a documented inheritance total. Later reporting says much of his estate was held in a private living trust, leaving no public child-by-child accounting.
What is known about Crosby’s estate?
Crosby died in 1977. The Washington Post reported that his nine-page will listed $400,000 in gifts and placed the remainder in a trust bearing his legal name, Harry L. Crosby. A family spokesman said the trust provided for Crosby’s wife, Kathryn, his seven sons, his daughter, and his sister. The report did not state how much any beneficiary received. The same article described Crosby as “believed to be worth between $40 million and $70 million.” That was a reported estimate of his wealth, not an inventory of probate assets or proof that the amount was transferred to his children.
Why is there no reliable amount for the children’s inheritance?
In 1979, the Washington Post reported that inheritance-tax documents filed in San Mateo County showed assets of at least $6 million. It also said much of the estate went to Kathryn and the seven children through a living trust that was not subject to disclosure. The tax-document figure is not a complete net-worth valuation, and it does not identify distributions to individual children. The Washington Post, March 3, 1979.

A later California Court of Appeal account says the will left the estate’s residue to a marital trust for Kathryn. That description, together with the reported privacy of the living trust, means the public record cited here does not support a calculation of what each child ultimately received. Crosby v. How did the family’s trust arrangements differ?
Crosby had eight children: four sons from his first marriage and three sons and a daughter from his second. A 1991 Washington Post article says the four older sons were supported by a trust established in their mother Dixie’s name, while the remaining estate at Crosby’s death went to his second wife and the three children of that marriage. This offers context for the family’s separate arrangements, but supplies no amounts for the children’s inheritances. The Washington Post, July 8, 1991.

Crosby’s assets also included interests in recordings, radio and television productions, films, musical and literary works, and related contractual and publicity rights, as described in a later court opinion. Those varied rights help explain why a single cash figure may not capture the full estate, but the opinion does not value the children’s distributions. HLC Properties Limited v. No. The Court of Appeal’s 2014 account describes a 1999 settlement of claims by Wilma’s Trust and its beneficiaries involving royalties, income, or monies from interests acquired through Wilma’s marriage to Crosby. The settlement was approximately $1.5 million; it was a separate later dispute, not a disclosed distribution from Crosby’s 1977 estate to his children.
