A 24/7 YouTube bhajan stream on a VPS has no single India-wide price. As a concrete benchmark, AWS Lightsail lists Linux plans at USD 5, USD 7 and USD 12 per month, but Mumbai-region plans include only half the transfer allowance shown for other regions. Continuous streaming can use most or all of that allowance, so estimate data transfer at your chosen bitrate before treating the VPS fee as the monthly cost.
What a VPS costs—and why the headline price is incomplete
A VPS (virtual private server) is a rented computer in a data centre. For a prepared bhajan playlist, it can loop media and send a continuous feed to YouTube Live without leaving a home computer running. The bill can include the server plan and, if you exceed the plan’s outbound transfer allowance, data-transfer charges.
AWS Lightsail’s published general Linux/Unix bundle prices and specifications below were checked on 2026-10-03. AWS says Mumbai plans receive half the general transfer allowance; excess outbound transfer is billable. Confirm the current Mumbai bundle and overage rate for your chosen plan before purchasing, because the general allowance is not the Mumbai allowance.

How much bandwidth does 24/7 streaming use?
For continuous encoded output, estimate monthly decimal gigabytes with this calculation:
monthly GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 0.45 × days
This is arithmetic based on 1 Mbps = 0.125 MB/s and 86,400 seconds per day. It excludes protocol/container overhead and any other outbound traffic, so allow extra headroom.

These are estimates, not provider statistics. The required bitrate depends on codec, resolution, frame rate, image detail and audio rate. A static devotional visual may look acceptable at a lower setting than YouTube’s general recommendations, but test the actual stream rather than assuming a low bitrate will be adequate.

Choose the stream settings before choosing the VPS
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video with AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant-bitrate encoding, keyframes every two seconds, and says keyframes should not be more than four seconds apart. For H.264, its recommended bitrates include 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Those settings imply substantially more data than the 3–5 Mbps examples above.

See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions. The lower-bitrate examples are cost calculations, not YouTube-prescribed quality settings. Select acceptable picture and sound quality, calculate the associated egress, and test stream health with representative media before committing to a plan.
Will a 1 TB VPS plan handle the stream?
Not safely as a blanket assumption. At 3 Mbps, a 30-day feed is estimated at 972 GB before overhead; the Mumbai allowance on a bundle with a 1 TB general allowance is half that figure, according to AWS’s regional-transfer documentation. A 1 TB headline allowance therefore does not mean 1 TB of included Mumbai outbound transfer.

Likewise, a 5 Mbps feed is estimated at about 1.62 TB per 30 days. That is close to the half-allowance implication for a general 2 TB bundle, before overhead. Check the plan’s current region-specific allowance and overage rate, then leave room for overhead and any other traffic. AWS says excess inbound data is not charged, while excess outbound transfer is billable.
Size the server for the way you loop the bhajans
Forwarding or looping an already encoded file
If the VPS sends an already encoded stream without transcoding, its CPU workload differs from real-time encoding. That may reduce processor demand, but it does not remove the outbound bandwidth requirement. Test your exact media and playback method on the intended instance and monitor CPU use and stream health.
Real-time encoding or re-encoding
Encoding video on the VPS can require more CPU than forwarding an existing encoded feed. Do not assume the smallest instance will handle your chosen resolution, frame rate and codec; benchmark the actual encoder and source before relying on it for continuous operation. Disk capacity also needs to fit the media you store on the server.

Plan for recovery, not just playback
A VPS does not guarantee an uninterrupted YouTube feed. Use process supervision so a stopped playback or encoder process can restart, and set up alerts if you need to notice failures promptly. Test what happens when the process or connection is interrupted, and monitor YouTube’s stream health after launch.

- Confirm your channel is eligible to start a live stream using YouTube’s current requirements.
- Use recordings you have permission to include in the precise livestream use. Devotional subject matter does not by itself establish that a recording is free to stream; check the rights for each track with the relevant owner.
- Prepare the playlist or loop and test its audio, video, bitrate and reconnect behaviour with representative content.
- Keep the YouTube stream key private. Enter it only into the streaming software or service you intend to use, and replace it if it is exposed.
