Nate Bargatze personally donated $250,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of America. CBS contributed a separate $100,000, bringing the combined announced donation to $350,000.
Why the Emmys donation figures can be confusing
The broadcast’s speech-length challenge began with $100,000 and adjusted the running amount by $1,000 for every second a winner’s speech came under or went over a 45-second target. The on-air counter reportedly reached negative $60,000 near the end of the ceremony. That figure was part of the bit—not the final donation received by the charity.
After the counter’s result, Bargatze said CBS would contribute $100,000 and that he would give $250,000 himself. The Associated Press reported the final split based on a statement from Lisa Anastasi, Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s chief development and external relations officer. The AP’s report, TheWrap and BBB Wise Giving Alliance all reported the same amounts.
What Bargatze said about his personal contribution
In comments reported by E! News on September 25, Bargatze said he had not expected to personally pay $250,000 at the end, but decided he could not withhold the contribution after the way the segment played out. That later explanation does not change the reported split. E! News reported his remarks, discussing comments from his September 24 podcast.

What the charity said
Anastasi told the AP: “The $350,000 donation will be incredibly impactful to our programs and in the lives of kids and teens who attend our Clubs.” Bargatze’s onstage comment that “The number, I’ll be honest with you, was embarrassing” referred to the running counter before he announced the final contributions—not to the $350,000 combined total.
