No verified public record establishes how much Madonna paid Guy Ritchie in their 2008 divorce settlement. A spokeswoman’s estimate of £50 million to £60 million was reported at the time, but the couple later called the statement about the sums “misleading and inaccurate” and said the financial details would remain private.
Where did the £50–60 million figure come from?
On December 15, 2008, The Guardian reported that Madonna’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, described the agreement as worth at least £50 million and potentially as much as £60 million. The report said that estimate included the value of Ashcombe, the couple’s country home in Wiltshire. It was therefore an estimate of overall value, not a confirmed cash payment to Ritchie.
The Guardian also reported that a source close to Ritchie questioned the £50 million figure. The estimate was disputed more directly two days later.
Did Madonna and Guy Ritchie confirm the amount?
No. In a joint statement reported on December 17, 2008, the former couple described a statement about the sums as “misleading and inaccurate” and said: “The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement.” ABC News, citing Reuters, also reported Rosenberg’s earlier £50–60 million estimate.

The couple’s statement did not give a replacement figure or an asset-by-asset account. The reported estimate and the joint correction should not be treated as competing confirmed totals: the first was an attributed estimate, and the second rejected the accuracy of statements about the sums while keeping the terms private.
What do the divorce records establish?
The legal timetable does not settle the financial question. On November 21, 2008, The Guardian reported that a decree nisi had been pronounced in the High Court in London in the case Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S. That earlier account said neither party had demanded a formal financial settlement from the other; it preceded later reporting that an agreement had been reached. The Guardian’s report on the decree nisi provides legal-process context, not a verified payout.

The published Ciccone v Ritchie judgment located in the public record concerns child-related proceedings, not the couple’s financial settlement. It does not disclose the terms. The judgment cannot be used to verify a settlement amount.

The exact amount is not established in the available public sources. The most specific figure reported was Rosenberg’s estimate of at least £50 million, potentially £60 million, including Ashcombe’s value.
