Deadpool & Wolverine opened to more than $400 million worldwide in July 2024. Disney reported a $444.1 million global opening, including $211 million domestically; Guinness World Records lists $445.4 million for the July 24–28 opening period. Those are separate source figures, not a single agreed total.
How much did Deadpool & Wolverine make opening weekend?
Disney’s July 28, 2024 announcement put the film’s worldwide opening at $444.1 million, with $211 million domestically. Box Office Mojo’s U.S./Canada opening figure is more precise: $211,435,291. The figures differ in precision and source: Disney gave a rounded contemporaneous report, while Box Office Mojo lists the domestic opening on its title page. Disney’s opening-weekend announcement and Box Office Mojo’s title page provide the respective figures.
For the worldwide opening, Guinness World Records lists $445.4 million for July 24–28, 2024. That is $1.3 million above Disney’s July 28 report. The sources present different totals in distinct reporting contexts; neither figure should be substituted for the other or averaged. Guinness’s record listing gives its amount and the record category.

Which box-office record did it break?
Guinness World Records recognizes Deadpool & Wolverine for the highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated film at the global box office. That is the specific record behind claims that the film “shattered” opening-weekend records. Disney also said in its July 28 announcement that the film had the highest July opening weekend at that time, a separate domestic distinction.

Record claims need a category and a time frame: the Guinness recognition is for a global opening weekend among R-rated films, not for the film’s entire theatrical run or for all movies regardless of rating. Guinness notes that records can change and that updates are not necessarily published online immediately, so the listing establishes the recognition shown there rather than guaranteeing present-day status.
Is the opening the same as the film’s final worldwide gross?
No. The opening weekend is the initial release-period result; later worldwide totals accumulate over the theatrical run. Disney reported that the film had earned $1.086 billion in 23 days in its August 16, 2024 milestone announcement. Box Office Mojo’s title page, accessed in 2026, reports a worldwide total of $1,338,073,645. These are later cumulative figures from different reporting points, not alternative opening-weekend totals; database totals may change. Why do the reported opening totals differ?
The available figures come from different source records and reporting contexts. Disney’s July 28 announcement reported $444.1 million worldwide, while Guinness’s record listing gives $445.4 million for the July 24–28 period. The sources do not establish that the totals are directly reconcilable, so the accurate comparison is to name the publisher and date or period alongside each number. Likewise, Disney’s rounded $211 million domestic figure and Box Office Mojo’s $211,435,291 figure describe the U.S./Canada opening at different levels of precision.

In Disney’s July 28, 2024 announcement, director, writer, and producer Shawn Levy said audiences would get the comedy and action they expected, while the story’s warmth and the unlikely friendship between the two characters might surprise them. Producer and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige credited the film’s success to the movie itself, saying a great movie can strengthen a cinematic universe. These comments offer context for the reception, but they are not box-office measurements.
