Instead, its sharing feature lets the subscriber share borrowed titles with eligible members of an Amazon Family. Only the primary Kindle Unlimited account holder can initiate borrows, and the account can borrow up to 20 titles at a time.
How Kindle Unlimited sharing works
Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited sharing instructions describe sharing borrowed books through the Kindle app: choose “Share Your Kindle Content,” select an Amazon Family member, and choose the books to share. There is also an option to share future borrows and purchases automatically.
The key limitation is that “Only the primary Kindle Unlimited account holder can initiate borrows.” Family members can receive shared titles, but Amazon does not describe them as having separate Kindle Unlimited borrowing accounts or independent borrowing privileges.
Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited Terms of Use, last updated November 19, 2024, say that members may not transfer or assign their membership or any Kindle Unlimited benefits. The Family feature is a defined way to share content; it is not a transferable subscription or a separate multi-user plan.

How many people can be in an Amazon Family?
Amazon’s Amazon Family overview says a group can include one other adult and up to four children, as well as teens subject to eligibility conditions. That makes the number of people who may receive shared content dependent on the household’s eligibility and Amazon Family membership—not a separately published Kindle Unlimited user cap.
Amazon’s guidance on teens is not consistent across its help pages. The overview describes teens added before April 7, 2025, or after January 1, 2026 where available. Its separate Amazon Family creation page says Amazon stopped accepting new teen additions on April 7, 2025, though existing teens may continue using their accounts until age 18. Check the current Amazon Family controls and local eligibility rather than assuming a household can add four teens.

Amazon says adults sharing Prime benefits must live together at the same primary residential address on its Prime sharing page. That page is about Prime benefits, so it is context for Amazon’s household model rather than an independent statement of Kindle Unlimited-specific eligibility.
How many titles can the household borrow at once?
The Kindle Unlimited account can borrow up to 20 titles at a time, according to Amazon’s Learn About Kindle Unlimited page. Amazon states this as an account limit; it does not say each Amazon Family member receives a separate 20-title allowance.

Starting April 22, 2026, each borrowed magazine issue counts toward that same 20-title limit. Before that change, members could borrow up to 50 magazine issues. If several people share the account’s borrowed titles, the 20-title cap remains the relevant limit for the subscription account.
