Her silhouette established the character; actor Maggie Robertson’s voice and motion-capture performance gave that figure its personality.
What Capcom wanted Alcina Dimitrescu to be
Resident Evil Village director Morimasa Sato said Alcina began with the aim of creating a character with considerable charisma. The team did not anticipate the scale of the audience’s positive response. The developers described the castle sequence’s effect as “beautiful horror”: an enemy who could attract attention as well as unsettle the player. In a 2021 PlayStation Blog interview, Sato also stressed that Resident Evil’s seemingly supernatural enemies still need explanations that fit the world’s premise that they are living beings.
That balance is the key to understanding her creation. Alcina is not simply frightening because she is a monster, or striking because she is elegant. Her measured presence, refined clothing and overwhelming scale make those qualities work together.
How her design changed during development
Presentation director Masato Miyazaki said three defining elements—Alcina’s height, wide-brimmed hat and white dress—were conceived at the beginning and stayed in the design. The long nails came later, introduced partway through development to make her physical threat more vivid. Miyazaki initially described her as bewitching, someone who captures victims and toys with them; dialogue and performance developed that characterization further. Engadget’s October 2021 interview with Miyazaki is the source for this design timeline.

Capcom’s stated height for Alcina is 9 feet 6 inches including her hat and heels, as reported in the Engadget interview introduction; the PlayStation Blog interview introduction describes her as nine-and-a-half feet tall. Those figures refer to the character, not Robertson.
Why the castle had to accommodate her
Her size was meant to shape how the player reads both the character and the setting. Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda summarized the idea in a 2023 Apple Developer feature: “The idea for Lady Dimitrescu was a huge character who was too big for the castle itself.” She has to duck through doorways, making the castle feel like a space that can barely contain her and turning her approach into a visual source of pressure. Kanda’s Apple Developer interview explains that scale concept.

That scale also posed a practical challenge for filmed scenes. Miyazaki said the team used backgrounds at human scale and at Alcina’s scale, arranged furniture to let performers face each other, and placed markers to show eye lines and limb positions. Rather than artificially extending Robertson’s height, the team asked her to act naturally because extensions would have compromised the performance.
How Maggie Robertson shaped the character
Miyazaki credited Robertson’s performance with completing the characterization: “It was through Maggie’s performance that the character was finally given life.” Robertson provided Alcina’s voice and motion-capture performance; model Helena Mankowska’s face was used for the character. In a 2022 Game Developer interview, Robertson described studying animals and using a catlike quality as a reference for Alcina’s movement. She characterized the movement as sensual, curvy and deliberate: “She’s gonna be more sensual and curvy and she takes her time.”

That physical approach complements the original visual concept without being the same thing as it. The height, hat and dress belonged to the design from the outset; Robertson’s choices helped make the finished character feel controlled, watchful and expressive rather than merely tall.

The official 2021 interview offers a more detailed account of the Dimitrescu family’s encounter design than of Alcina’s individual concept-art history. Sato said the developers settled on three daughters after simulating their number and how frequently Ethan would encounter them, with game balance and pacing in mind. The team had considered dozens of sisters before testing the tempo of the sequence and arriving at the final family of Alcina and three daughters.

Art director Tomonori Takano described several early ideas for the daughters: blood-dependent enemies, mummification and flight using wings emerging from their heads. Their eventual insect-swarm concept reflected the idea that ordinary methods would not defeat them. The team also tested alternatives including giant scissors, long leech-like tongues and whips. These are documented explorations of the daughters and the family’s encounters, not a complete chronology of Alcina’s own design.
The same interview frames the family’s appeal as a deliberate mixture of fear and attraction. It does not establish a specific real-world inspiration for Alcina, and the available interviews do not provide a full concept-art timeline for her.
