Kylie Jenner’s public identity has shifted from a child featured on family reality television to a social-media-era beauty figure, a cosmetics entrepreneur, and a fashion-conscious parent whose work still includes television. The milestones are documented; the meaning of each shift is best understood through what she said and did at the time, rather than treating her changing appearance as an explanation for her career.
Childhood in the family spotlight
Jenner’s public life began in childhood, alongside her family’s reality television presence. Keeping Up With the Kardashians debuted in 2007, when she was 10, according to Harper’s Bazaar’s 2020 profile. A 2014 British Vogue interview, conducted when she was 17, recalled that she had been famous since childhood and had considered leaving the show around age 13. These accounts establish television as the opening chapter of her public identity, but they do not specify the exact date of her first on-screen appearance.
2015: social media, public image and a lip kit
By 2015, Jenner was describing the gap between being highly visible and being understood. In an interview with TIME on October 29, 2015, she reflected on the impressions people formed from reality television, brief social-media posts and coverage elsewhere: “People think they have a perfect idea of who you are from a four-second Snapchat video…and fake blogs, stories, magazine covers. In reality, that’s not the case. Nobody knows who I am except family and my close friends.” That was her view of public perception at the time, not a claim that every viewer saw her the same way.
The interview also noted that her lip kit was launching soon. The product connected her online beauty identity to something physical: a cosmetics item bearing her name. It marked a clear step from being a reality-TV personality and social-media presence toward becoming the public face of a beauty business.

From lip kits to a broader beauty business
By the time of Harper’s Bazaar’s March 2020 profile, Kylie Cosmetics had grown beyond lip kits into makeup and skincare. The expansion gave Jenner’s public persona a business dimension: beauty was no longer only part of her personal presentation but also the category in which she led a brand.
The available accounts support that broad transition, not a precise measure of the company’s sales, valuation or division of operational responsibility. The distinction matters: a public-facing founder role is documented, while more detailed claims about the business require evidence beyond these profiles.
How her beauty and fashion presentation changed
Jenner’s makeup, hair and clothing have varied across public eras. A Who What Wear retrospective published August 13, 2026 frames that visual history as a shift from the “King Kylie” look toward a more polished fashion and beauty image. Those labels are useful shorthand for public style periods, not explanations of why she changed her look.
Changes in photographs can show changes in styling and presentation; they do not establish that a particular cosmetic procedure took place. Keeping the distinction clear allows a style retrospective to describe what is visible without turning images into medical claims.
2024: cosmetics, fashion, parenting and television overlap
In a September 2024 interview with British Vogue, Jenner described work across Kylie Cosmetics, including design development, product testing, marketing and legal matters. She also appeared in the family series The Kardashians and was raising two children. The interview captures several parts of her life at once rather than a clean break from one career phase to another.
“There is nothing more fun in this world than cosmetics and fashion,” she told the magazine. It is a reported personal preference, not a complete account of her work, but it helps explain why fashion and beauty remain central to how she presents herself publicly.

Jenner was widely described as a billionaire, but a 2025 Vanity Fair profile reported that Forbes later concluded she was not a billionaire following the cosmetics transaction. The chronology is important: the earlier label was not a settled or enduring fact. The profile provides that account of Forbes’s conclusion; it does not establish a current net-worth figure.
