Kevin Nash says he was offered the role of Super Shredder backstage at a WCW event in Greensboro, North Carolina. In his recollection, the production needed a replacement for Kevin Peter Hall, who had died while the costume was being made, and Nash’s height made him a fit. Nash says he accepted the offer and had a cast made of his head soon afterward.
How Nash says he was cast as Super Shredder
Nash recounted the story years later on his Kliq This podcast, in an account transcribed by WrestleZone. He said representatives of Carolco Studios approached him backstage at a WCW event in Greensboro as he was on his way to the ring. They asked whether he would play Super Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Nash said he agreed, then went to a Holiday Inn, where a cast was made of his head for the costume.
According to Nash, Kevin Peter Hall had originally been intended for the role but died while the costume was already being made. Nash said the production needed someone close to seven feet tall, which made him suitable for the part. These details come from Nash’s later recollection; the available film credits confirm his role but do not independently document the backstage offer, head cast or replacement sequence.
What the film credits confirm
The American Film Institute’s catalog entry lists Kevin Nash as Super Shredder. It identifies the film as directed by Michael Pressman, written by Todd W. Langen, rated PG and running 88 minutes. The film opened on March 22, 1991.

The costume Nash remembered wearing
In a GameSpot interview, Nash said the people who made the original Batman outfit also made Super Shredder’s costume. He recalled that its double-lined latex cape weighed about 105 pounds. That is Nash’s estimate, not a separately documented production measurement.
Nash described the costume as cumbersome to move in: crew members helped him into most of it, took him to the set in the back of a pickup truck, and left the helmet off until he arrived. He recalled that walking in the costume was impractical.

The first scene he filmed
Nash told GameSpot that his first scene involved putting his hand through wood and repeating the movement for six hours. He remembered being brought in alone on a Saturday and joked that he could not tell whether the long repetition was a rib or simply a way to keep the crew working overtime.

In the Kliq This account transcribed by WrestleZone, Nash said: “I made more money doing Ninja Turtles than I did wrestling my first year. Just my payment for my role and the time on set.” That is his personal comparison of his film pay and early wrestling earnings, not an independently verified financial figure.
