Karen Ledbury said she learned that her husband, Aidan, had suffered a life-threatening stroke after leaving a Sydney studio where she had been working. While she was inside, the studio’s lack of phone reception kept calls and messages from reaching her. Once she restarted her phone, an urgent text from her son Jordan told her the family needed to get to hospital.
Why the calls and texts did not reach her
Ledbury was filming at a studio in Artarmon, Sydney, in June 2022. In an interview account published by 7NEWS in August 2023, she described the building as a place where mobile reception was unavailable: “The studio that we work in is actually like a concrete jungle, so there is no reception,” she said, as quoted by the outlet.
After leaving work early, Ledbury restarted her phone and saw 37 missed calls from family members and friends. She also found urgent messages from Jordan, who was visiting from Hawaii, according to the August 2023 reports.
Jordan’s message and the trip to hospital
Jordan’s text, reproduced by 7NEWS and PerthNow, read: “SOS! Emergency. Please help me. Please help me.” He told his mother that Aidan had suffered a sudden, severe stroke. The family had been asked to come to hospital and say goodbye.

Ledbury went to Royal North Shore Hospital. The reports recount the shock of her arrival and describe how the family faced the possibility that Aidan might not survive.
What the 2023 accounts said about Aidan’s recovery
The 7NEWS and PerthNow reports said Aidan survived emergency surgery and spent three weeks in intensive care. At the time of the 7NEWS account, published 7 August 2023, his communication was limited and he was learning to walk again. Those details describe his condition during that reporting period; the cited coverage does not establish his health now.

Other hardships discussed in the interview
The August 2023 coverage also reported that Ledbury spoke about her father’s death and Jordan’s cancer diagnosis as hardships surrounding the family crisis. A podcast episode description published in July 2025 revisited those overlapping events, but it is not a medical or family-status update. The reports do not establish Jordan’s current health or the family’s current circumstances.
