The partnership has since combined classic Yes material with original music, including the debut album TRUE, and a filmed concert release, Live – Perpetual Change. The Band Geeks are Anderson’s collaborators, not the current Yes lineup or a reunion of the full band.
How did Jon Anderson find The Band Geeks?
The Band Geeks grew out of videos and podcast projects by bassist Richie Castellano and his musical friends. In 2018, the group posted a cover of Yes’s “Close to the Edge” on YouTube. Rolling Stone reported in 2024 that the video drew more than half a million views and that Anderson came across it while looking for a new band.

There are two accounts of which performance first reached Anderson. In Rolling Stone’s account, the “Close to the Edge” cover was central to the discovery story. In a separate 2024 interview with The Arts Fuse, Anderson said his friend John Amick at Sirius Radio sent him a video of the group performing “Heart of the Sunrise.” The accounts agree that the band’s online Yes performances led to contact, but do not establish one video as the uncontested first.
Anderson recalled phoning Castellano with a direct proposal: “I phoned up Richie the bass player and said, ‘Let’s go on tour.’” Castellano described the group’s approach to the material as an expression of admiration rather than a display of technical showmanship: “This isn’t a bunch of music snobs showing off. This is genuine love for Yes and their music.”

How did YouTube covers become a touring partnership?
Anderson and The Band Geeks first toured together in 2023. Anderson told The Arts Fuse they had played 12 shows before deciding to make an album. For the first tour, Castellano told Rolling Stone, the band rehearsed 48 times, and Anderson joined remotely on Zoom to help refine parts. Those are figures attributed to the musicians and the publication’s reporting, not independently audited totals.
The shows focused on Yes epics and classics. Anderson told The Arts Fuse, “I’ve always wanted to do epics and classics, and that’s what we did.” He named songs including “Gates of Delirium,” “Awaken,” “Close to the Edge,” “Yours Is No Disgrace” and “I’ve Seen All Good People.” Rolling Stone reported that he wanted to concentrate on the best of Seventies Yes.

The arrangements were part of the appeal. Anderson said the two-keyboard setup allowed the band to reproduce musical textures that Yes could not always duplicate live when it had only one keyboard player. The group’s detailed preparation helped it tackle the intricacies of the repertoire.

What is the Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks album called?
Their debut album is TRUE. Anderson described the collaboration’s writing process in interviews as a mix of ideas developed at a distance: he sent demos to Castellano and the band, and they worked on the material and compared notes over Zoom. Some songs began with music The Band Geeks sent Anderson. In his account to The Arts Fuse, Castellano developed several of Anderson’s demos, also wrote songs for Anderson to sing, and the album included two older songs Anderson had made with a friend in Nashville.
That original material made the project more than a vehicle for revisiting Yes’s catalog. The studio album presents new collaborative work; the later live release captures the group playing Yes repertoire in concert.

What does Live – Perpetual Change document?
In an announcement dated December 12, 2024, Anderson’s official site said the concert was recorded and filmed at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles, Illinois, during the August 2023 tour. The announcement listed a two-CD/DVD package and a triple-vinyl package. It establishes the announced formats, not current retail stock or availability.
