Spoilers: Joan Vassos chooses Chock Chapple, and they get engaged. The finale’s unexpected turn is that she ends Guy Gansert’s journey before he can meet her family—not that she changes her mind about the winner.
Who does Joan choose in The Golden Bachelorette finale?
Joan chooses Chock, a 60-year-old insurance executive from Wichita, Kansas, over Guy, a 66-year-old ER doctor from Reno, Nevada. After Chock proposes at the seaside altar, Joan accepts and gives him the final golden rose. ABC7’s recap and TheWrap’s finale report describe the choice and proposal.
What was the finale’s plot twist?
The surprise was the timing of Joan’s goodbye to Guy. The finale was set in Bora Bora, where Joan’s family and her final two suitors gathered for the final dates and family meetings. But after her last date with Chock and meeting his family, Joan went to Guy before he had his planned meeting with her family. She ended their relationship early rather than let him continue toward a possible proposal.
Joan told Guy, “My heart belongs to somebody else now,” and explained that she wanted to spare him the pain of going further when she already knew where her feelings lay. The twist was the abrupt early farewell—not a last-minute switch from Chock to Guy. TheWrap had previewed a “weird twist” in the family-meeting dynamic before the episode aired; its November 6, 2024 interview did not reveal the precise outcome.

How did the family meeting shape the ending?
According to ABC7’s recap, Joan’s children met Chock. Her son Nick began with reservations about the process but came to tell Joan he liked Chock. Joan had also worried about moving on after her husband John’s death, and the recap says her children encouraged her to pursue future happiness. That family context helps explain the emotional weight of the finale, though it does not change the central result: Joan chose Chock.
What did Joan and Chock say after the finale?
In an ABC News interview on November 14, 2024, the day after the finale and live “After the Final Rose” special, Joan and Chock said they had kept their relationship private for months and were growing closer. They were focused on blending Joan’s family in Maryland with Chock’s in Kansas. Joan said she wanted to live a more normal life for a while before making wedding plans. Chock joked that marriage was “just a matter of time,” and Joan replied, “I am.” Those comments describe their plans and outlook at the time; they do not establish whether they later married or their current relationship status.
