Dina and Jesse had sex before the Seattle trip; the game does not give an exact conception date or establish any assisted-reproduction method.
Who is the father of Dina’s baby?
Jesse is the father. Dina’s pregnancy does not mean Ellie biologically caused it: the story identifies Dina and Jesse as having had sex before the Seattle journey. Naughty Dog’s character announcement lists Dina and Jesse among the characters alongside Ellie: Naughty Dog’s announcement.

When does Dina tell Ellie?
Dina reveals the pregnancy while she and Ellie are sheltering in a theater in Seattle. The scene follows Ellie telling Dina about her immunity, and it also explains Dina’s earlier nausea. The story places Dina and Jesse’s sexual encounter before the trip, but does not specify precisely when conception occurred.
Is the HBO version the same as the game?
No. Keep the continuities separate: a 2025 GamesRadar+ comparison reports that HBO’s Season 2, Episode 4 changes the reveal sequence and Ellie’s immediate reaction compared with the game: GamesRadar+’s comparison. That is a report about the adaptation, not an official explanation of the game’s storyline.
#1 Best Overall
- Eine intensive, von starken Charakteren getragene Geschichte, durch das Erfolgsstudio Naughty Dog perfekt inszeniert
- Langerwartete Fortsetzung von "The Last of Us" kommt endlich auf PS4
- Dank modernster Motion-Capturing werden die Emotionen noch realistischer transportiert
- Unberechenbare Begegnungen mit Feinden durch das erstklassige KI-System
For context, PlayStation describes the game as following Ellie and Joel after they have settled in Jackson, Wyoming, five years after their journey across the United States: PlayStation’s official game page. That premise establishes the game’s setting, not the timing or circumstances of Dina’s pregnancy.
