In the 2023 Disney+ documentary Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, Seaborn remembered that they had “flirted with the idea of flirting.” Sheeran recalled a brief kiss. Those memories describe a youthful connection, not a relationship that continued uninterrupted into adulthood. The documentary remarks were excerpted by Entertainment Tonight.
They lost touch before reconnecting as adults
After school, Seaborn went to university in the United States, while Sheeran pursued music. They lost touch for several years. Seaborn later worked in New York, where Sheeran and a mutual friend connected with her again.

Sheeran explained that one of their best friends worked on his tour. When he was in New York, where Seaborn lived, the friend helped them meet up. They hung out and reconnected, and their dating relationship developed after that.
Sheeran later described the relationship as feeling natural: “It was just so natural and it just felt right,” he said in the documentary excerpt. The story is therefore best understood as school friends who found each other again in New York—not childhood sweethearts who stayed together continuously.

The accounts identify Thomas Mills High School and place their first connection in their school years, but do not establish the exact year they first met. Seaborn’s recollection that Sheeran was one year above her is a personal memory, not a precise date.
