Churches can use video to explain a specific ministry need, show what gifts make possible, and invite viewers to give through a clear, trustworthy route. A video can make the case easier to understand, but it does not guarantee more donations: measure views, donation-page visits, and completed gifts separately.
How can churches use video to increase donations?
Start with one concrete need or outcome, explain why it matters, and make one specific invitation. Keep the story truthful and the giving route easy to find. A polished production is not a prerequisite; understandable speech, steady framing, and a clear next step matter more than elaborate gear.
Choose one campaign purpose
Focus each video on a defined project, ministry, or community need rather than asking viewers to support everything at once. Explain what the church is doing, who it serves, and how donations will be used. Avoid promises about outcomes the church cannot substantiate.
Use a willing, informed speaker
A pastor, volunteer, or participant can speak plainly about the need and its impact. Ask permission before recording, particularly when filming minors or people receiving services, and follow the church’s safeguarding and privacy practices. Legal requirements vary by location; consult the church’s safeguarding or legal guidance when in doubt.

Make one clear ask
Tell viewers what action to take and where to take it. For example: “If you’d like to support this project, give through the campaign page linked below.” Keep the language voluntary and specific; emotional pressure is not a substitute for clarity.
How do I make a church fundraising video?
- Plan the message. Write a short outline: the need, why it matters, what the church is doing, and the single giving action. Check that campaign details and any claims about use of funds are approved and accurate.
- Choose the viewing location before filming. Decide whether the video is for a website, a service presentation, or social sharing. That choice affects framing and orientation; make a shorter cut for sharing if useful.
- Record with a phone if that is what you have. YouTube’s nonprofit production guide recommends stabilizing the phone, cleaning its lens, avoiding interruptions, and paying attention to the opening moments. Its guidance includes natural-light and framing advice; a dedicated camera is not required. See YouTube’s nonprofit video guide.
- Prioritize intelligible speech. Choose a quiet location and listen back to a test recording. YouTube’s guide suggests a lavalier microphone when needed and recording close enough to it for clearer speech. Treat it as an optional aid, not a donation-raising requirement.
- Keep the appeal direct. Record the speaker’s explanation and invitation in natural language. Avoid adding dramatic claims or implying that a donation guarantees a particular result unless the church can support that claim.
- Add captions or essential on-screen text where practical. This helps convey the main message and giving destination when viewers cannot or do not play audio. Make sure the text is readable and does not obscure important visuals.
- Publish with a nearby, working donation route. Test the link on a phone and computer, confirm it leads to the church’s legitimate giving page or campaign, and ensure the stated purpose matches the page. Explain any relevant giving methods on that destination.
- Review the finished video before sharing. Check speech, captions, campaign details, permissions, and the donation link. Use only footage, music, and other material the church has the right to use; YouTube warns against using others’ work without sufficient changes.
What should a church donation video say?
A useful script can be brief without being vague. Adapt this outline to the campaign, and replace every bracketed item with verified information:

Can churches fundraise on YouTube?
Sometimes. YouTube says eligible channels in certain locations can add a Donate button to videos and live streams for available nonprofits. Eligibility depends on the channel, location, and program requirements, so confirm the current rules for your church before building a campaign around an in-platform button. See YouTube’s fundraising guidance.

If the church is not eligible for YouTube Giving
YouTube advises channels that are not eligible to use an end screen linking to an external fundraiser. End screens can appear during the last 5–20 seconds of a video. Check that the destination is available to your channel and that the end-screen link and campaign page work as intended.
Google for Nonprofits describes YouTube Giving fundraisers as requiring a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) public charity and a Google for Nonprofits account. It also describes “Link anywhere cards” for participating nonprofit channels. These are program-specific requirements and options, not a universal eligibility rule for every church; verify current requirements for the church’s status and location with Google for Nonprofits.

Make the donor’s next step trustworthy
Whether the gift happens through a platform feature or an external page, the donor should be able to identify the church, understand what the campaign supports, and use a giving method that suits them. Givelify’s 2026 materials describe churches’ use of both traditional and digital giving. Keep video-linked giving accessible without assuming every member prefers the same method. Its report also says recurring-giving tools are most useful for people with established giving habits, so present recurring gifts as an option rather than the expected choice. See 2026 Giving in Faith and its report summary.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should a church tell whether video helped?
Track the steps separately: how many people viewed the video, how many visited the linked donation page, and how many completed a gift. Use a trackable campaign link if the church’s giving system supports one, and compare results with a relevant baseline. A donation received while a video is running is not automatically attributable to that video; avoid claiming causation unless the measurement method supports it.

There is no reliable percentage increase in church donations caused by video established by the sources cited here. Tectonic Video’s 2021 index analyzed 112,000+ social-media video posts from 778 nonprofit organizations, comparing 2020 with 2019. It describes pandemic-era nonprofit video and fundraising patterns, not a current church-only benchmark or proof that video caused donations. The index also reports that production value did not correlate with audience engagement in its analysis; that is not evidence about donation conversion. See the index.
Givelify’s 2026 report page describes a research base of 894 church leaders surveyed, 1,987 faith-based donors surveyed, $7.2 billion in donations analyzed, and 1.7 million donor giving patterns represented. These figures describe that report’s research base; they are not an independent census of churches or evidence of video-driven donation growth. The Church of England says its 2025 Anglican Giving Survey used an online panel of 2,000 self-identified Anglicans who attend at least monthly; that denominational context does not establish video impact. See the Givelify church-giving discussion and the Church of England survey page.
Common problems and practical fixes
- Viewers watch but do not click: Make the invitation and destination explicit, put the link near the video, and check that viewers can find it without searching.
- People click but do not complete a gift: Test the giving page, confirm that its campaign purpose matches the video, and check that the page clearly explains available giving methods.
- Speech is difficult to hear: Record in a quieter place, move closer to the microphone, and use a lavalier mic if needed. Listen to a test recording before filming the full appeal.
- The video feels too elaborate to finish: Scale back to one speaker, one clear message, and a phone recording. YouTube’s guide recommends practical phone techniques, not a high-end production setup.
- The YouTube Donate button is missing: Recheck the channel’s and nonprofit’s current eligibility and location requirements. If the channel is not eligible, use the external-fundraiser route YouTube describes, where available.
- Viewers question the campaign: Make the purpose and intended use of funds clear on both the video and the destination page, and correct unsupported or outdated claims before sharing.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the church wants a pre-recorded video to play as a continuous YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is a separate option from making a donation appeal video. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so a computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It does not stream from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
There is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. Each slot includes 24/7 looping and playlists, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Plans differ by billing length:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
For five or more slots, contact support. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Learn more at StreamNeo. To try it, start the free first day.
