Christie Brinkley testified that she learned about Peter Cook’s affair at a Southampton High School graduation ceremony in 2006, just after delivering a commencement speech. Brian Platt, the teenage girl’s stepfather, approached her and told her about the relationship, according to reports of Brinkley’s testimony at the couple’s 2008 divorce trial.
Who told Brinkley, and where did it happen?
Brinkley said Brian Platt told her at the graduation ceremony. CityNews identified Platt as a police officer and the teenager’s stepfather. In that outlet’s account of the trial, Brinkley recalled Platt saying: “That husband of yours won’t knock it off. He’s having an affair with my teenage daughter.” The quotation is Platt’s reported wording as Brinkley remembered it in court, not a quotation verified against a court transcript. CityNews
After Platt spoke, Brinkley testified, she looked at Cook, who was seated in the front row. She said he shook his head in denial. The Los Angeles Times likewise reported that Brinkley said she learned of the infidelity in June 2006 after speaking at the school’s commencement ceremony. Los Angeles Times
What is known about the affair timeline?
Coverage used different ages for Diana Bianchi in different timeline contexts. The Los Angeles Times’ 2008 trial report said she was 18 when the months-long affair began. An Associated Press report carried by CBS News in July 2006 described her as 19 and said she had previously worked at Cook’s architecture firm; it reported that Cook met her while she worked at a toy store and later hired her. Those descriptions need not conflict: one refers to her age when the relationship began, the other to her age in later coverage. CBS News

The available reports establish the ceremony year as 2006, but not its exact date. The Los Angeles Times places Brinkley’s discovery in June of that year.
How Cook’s later account differs
In a later interview with Barbara Walters, Cook described a stepfather confronting him at a 2006 speaking engagement with Brinkley and said the affair had ended months earlier, according to ABC News. That is Cook’s account of the confrontation and the relationship’s timing; it is distinct from Brinkley’s testimony about learning of the affair from Platt. ABC News

What the trial reports can—and cannot—confirm
The detailed scene comes from news coverage of Brinkley’s testimony during the 2008 divorce trial. The accounts support the central answer: she said Platt told her after her commencement speech at Southampton High School, and she then looked to Cook. The underlying court transcript is not available in the cited reports, so the scene and quoted words should be understood as reported testimony, not independently verified transcript text.
