Abid Brohi, a rapper from Sibbi, Balochistan, was heard performing at the town’s annual fair—not in a formal audition, but while visiting musicians were staying where he worked. Filmmaker Raza Shah later connected him with Patari, which paired him with electronic duo Somewhatsuper for a song released through the #PatariTabeer project. That account comes from Patari executive Ahmer Naqvi’s 2017 feature for Scroll.in.
How did the fair bring Brohi to musicians’ attention?
Naqvi’s account places Brohi at Sibbi’s annual fair, where he worked at the official residence of a local bureaucrat. Musicians invited to perform at the fair stayed there, and Brohi would perform his rap songs for them. The article describes this setting as part of how his music was heard; it does not describe a competition, formal audition, or organized search for talent.

Before becoming known as a rapper, Brohi had worked at a cloth store, sold snacks, and done manual labour, according to Naqvi. The fair was therefore a chance for visiting musicians to hear him, rather than a conventional route into the music industry.
Who connected Brohi with Patari?
Naqvi credits filmmaker Raza Shah with making the next connection. After returning to Lahore, Shah contacted Patari CEO Khalid Bajwa about Brohi. At the time, Patari was working on #PatariTabeer, a project intended to connect local musicians with audiences and help them make music, as Naqvi describes it.

How did the collaboration with Somewhatsuper come about?
Patari ultimately paired Brohi with Somewhatsuper, an electronic music duo. Naqvi says the duo focused on keeping Brohi’s voice central to the song. It was released on January 14; the feature, published January 18, 2017, says attention followed within hours, but gives no verifiable view count, sales figure, or listener total.
What shaped Brohi’s sound?
Naqvi writes that Brohi had been influenced by videos of Punjabi rapper Bohemia and developed a delivery and mannerisms inspired by him. The feature describes Brohi’s verses as mixing dialects and wordplay, and his music as bringing local folk styles together with contemporary elements. These are descriptions in Naqvi’s account, not an independent musical analysis.

It is a headline characterization, not a documented award or independently measured ranking. Naqvi’s feature offers a reported account of Brohi’s route from performing at the fair to a Patari collaboration, but does not establish his present-day career, the song’s current availability, Patari’s current status, or later audience figures. Because Naqvi was a Patari executive, his description of the company’s role comes from someone involved in the project.
