Its stakes include the anticipated Battle of the Gullet, but the footage does not confirm how that battle ends. HBO had announced the season’s U.S. premiere for June 21, 2026, at 9 p.m.; that date has passed.
What the season 3 trailer shows
TVLine described the trailer as showing the bloody opening of the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war at the center of the series. The footage features fighting and dragons, signaling a broader and more violent conflict. Those images establish the scale and mood of the season, not a complete account of its events.
The Battle of the Gullet is a major anticipated event in trailer coverage, but it should be treated as a story expectation rather than a confirmed outcome. The trailer does not, by itself, establish who wins or what happens to the characters involved.
Why the Battle of the Gullet matters
The season 2 finale set characters on a path toward major developments, including the Gullet. TVLine’s earlier teaser coverage also connected the season 2 setup to the Gullet and the invasion of King’s Landing. That context helps explain why the battle looms over the new trailer: it is one of the conflicts the story has been moving toward, not a battle whose result the footage reveals.

Showrunner Ryan Condal discussed the scale of staging the event in comments reported by TVLine. He said the production was trying to give the Gullet “the time and the space that it deserves,” citing the resources involved in construction, armor, costumes and visual effects. The remark speaks to the production’s approach; it does not confirm specific scenes or outcomes.
