Its three episodes move from the discovery and the investigation’s early questions to diaries found in the home and the family’s history. The series examines what might explain the deaths; a later police closure report said there was no sign of foul play, but the report was awaiting court consideration when it was reported.
What is House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths about?
Created by filmmaker Leena Yadav, the Netflix limited documentary series examines the 2018 deaths of 11 members of the Chundawat family at their home in Burari, Delhi. Netflix’s synopsis poses the question, “Suicide, murder — or something else?” That is the series’ framing of the mystery, not a finding that the deaths were a murder.

Yadav described her approach as less a “whodunit” than a “whydunit”: “More than a ‘whodunit’ it is a ‘whydunit’ and even though the first question is who, why is much more important in this case.” She also said the filmmakers could not know the complete truth of what happened inside the home. That statement describes the limits of the documentary’s inquiry; it is distinct from the police conclusion reported later.
How many episodes are there?
Netflix lists three episodes, with runtimes of 46, 42 and 47 minutes respectively. The episode descriptions progress from the discovery and questions facing investigators to the diaries found in the house, then to the family’s history and wider social concerns.

What did investigators conclude about the Burari deaths?
The publicly reported investigative findings should be kept separate from the questions the documentary explores. In September 2018, Hindustan Times reported that police said a CBI psychological autopsy corroborated their suicide finding and described investigators’ account of diary evidence and ritual beliefs. That was an account of the investigation at that stage, not a court judgment.
Rank #2
In October 2021, The Times of India reported that Delhi Police’s Crime Branch had submitted a closure report stating that it found no sign of foul play and that the deaths appeared to result from a family suicide pact. The article said a court hearing on the report was still expected. It therefore does not establish that a court adopted the police conclusion.
ThePrint’s report on the home and neighborhood aftermath describes how diaries and rumors shaped public perceptions. Rumors, including spiritual or paranormal explanations, should not be treated as established facts.

How does the series tell the story?
The Indian Express review describes the series as combining archival media footage, recreated sequences and testimony from experts, crime reporters and law-enforcement officials. The reviewer also criticized its handling of social issues; that is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus judgment. Yadav’s stated emphasis on “why” helps explain why the episodes extend beyond the basic question of who died and how investigators interpreted the evidence.
