The distinction matters: official tourism sources place the film’s connection on the pass and identify its famous “Goldfinger Curve,” but do not establish that the hotel itself was a principal filming location or that a scene was shot inside it. The hotel is closed indefinitely, so it is not an option for an overnight stay or a meal.
Where is the Hotel Belvédère?
This is the former Hotel-Restaurant Belvédère on the Valais side of the Furka Pass, set beside a hairpin bend high in the Swiss Alps. The pass links Realp in the canton of Uri with Oberwald in Valais and reaches 2,429 metres, according to Switzerland Tourism’s destination information. It opened in 1865, according to Obergoms Tourism.

The hotel’s position makes it a striking roadside landmark. Its association with a celebrated Alpine drive and a Bond-film route has helped make it a recognizable stop for visitors and photographers, even though the building’s own role in the film is not established by the cited tourism sources.
What was the James Bond connection?
The relevant film is Goldfinger, released in 1964. Obergoms Tourism says scenes were filmed on the Furka Pass that year, while Switzerland Tourism associates the pass route and its “Goldfinger Curve” with the movie. Together, these sources support calling the Furka Pass a Goldfinger location.

They do not establish that the Hotel Belvédère building was a principal set, that filming took place inside it, or that the hotel itself appears as a featured location. The careful version of the story is that the hotel stands on the pass route made famous by Goldfinger—not that the hotel was definitively a film set.
Can you stay or eat at the hotel?
No. Erlebnis Rhonegletscher says the Hotel-Restaurant Belvédère will remain closed indefinitely. Treat it as a landmark to view from the pass, not as bookable accommodation or an open restaurant. Check the operator’s Hotel Belvédère status page for any change before travelling.

How can you visit the Furka Pass?
Switzerland Tourism describes the pass as a seasonal route, generally open from June to October depending on snow conditions. The glacier grotto is weather-dependent and usually open from June to mid-October. Road access, public transport, railway service and attractions can change with conditions, so confirm current operations before setting out.
| Option | Approximate time | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Drive across the pass | 45–60 minutes | Switzerland Tourism’s approximate pass-ride duration; the route is subject to seasonal opening and snow conditions. |
| Cross by bus or historic steam railway | 1.5–2 hours | Switzerland Tourism’s approximate crossing duration. Its page says a bus crosses the pass and stops at the hotel; the historic steam railway typically runs from late June to early October. |
| Visit the Rhône Glacier ice grotto and trail | 1–1.5 hours | Switzerland Tourism’s approximate activity duration; access is weather-dependent and the grotto usually operates from June to mid-October. |
These are indicative durations, not guaranteed schedules. Switzerland Tourism’s guidance does not provide fares in the cited material. For the latest seasonal guidance, consult its Furka Pass visitor page; for the pass’s historical context, see Obergoms Tourism’s Furka Pass history.

What makes the stop worthwhile?
The Belvédère is best understood as part of the scenery and history of the pass: a former hotel perched at a dramatic bend on a high Alpine route with a documented connection to Goldfinger. A visit can be combined with the Rhône Glacier ice grotto and trail when they are open. Since the hotel is closed, plan around the road, transport and glacier attractions rather than expecting services at the building.
