Dustin Milligan wasn’t fully nude while filming the exposed opening scenes of Netflix’s Hot Frosty. He said he wore thick protective underwear that was removed from the image with CGI. The setup felt uncomfortable at first, he told Decider, but leaning into the role became personally freeing.
Was Dustin Milligan actually naked in Hot Frosty?
No. Milligan said he wore unusual, thick underwear for the scene, and CGI erased it from the finished image. In an interview with Decider, as reported by Just Jared on November 15, 2024, he explained: “They do CGI-out the fact that I’m wearing these… I don’t know if it’s called a dancer’s belt, but you’re in like this weird, thick underwear—very strange stuff that they put you in.”

So the apparent nudity is a screen effect, not evidence that Milligan was fully nude on set. The production also carefully positioned and sewed the scarf in place to preserve the gag while covering Jack.
Why the scenes felt awkward—and then liberating
Milligan said the exposure was not always comfortable. He had been hired about two weeks or less before filming, leaving little time to prepare beyond getting into character. He told Decider: “It required being quite exposed, which is not always totally comfortable. But getting over that hurdle and just leaning into it—I actually feel like I learned something about myself as a result of that, which I wasn’t expecting, but certainly was very welcome.”

In a separate interview with Variety, syndicated by Yahoo on November 14, 2024, he described setting aside his inhibitions to play Jack in that moment: “It was liberating for me!” The two descriptions capture both parts of his account: the setup could feel awkward, while committing to the character ultimately felt freeing.
How the scarf scene fits the film’s comedy
Hot Frosty is a Netflix Christmas movie in which Milligan plays Jack, a snowman who comes to life. His exposed body and the scarf repeatedly used to cover him are part of the film’s broad physical comedy, not a depiction of a fully nude performance. The Washington Post’s coverage of the film describes the scarf as a recurring cover-up in the story.

Filming in Canada added a cold-weather complication
The Washington Post reported that the production filmed in Brockville, Ontario, in mid-March. Milligan said the crew sprayed or doused him with water to create the story’s hot-and-cold effects. As he put it: “Honestly, all we did was spray me with water when I was supposed to be hot — or douse me with water when I was getting really hot — which, considering we shot in mid-March in Canada, I 10 out of 10 do not recommend.”
