Vadim Kruglov, 37, was killed at Burning Man’s temporary Black Rock City on August 30, 2025. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death as a homicide. What happened at Burning Man?
At approximately 9:14 p.m. on August 30, 2025, a participant flagged down a Pershing County sheriff’s deputy and reported a man lying in a pool of blood. Deputies and Bureau of Land Management rangers responded. The Associated Press reported that authorities said the man was obviously deceased, that investigators interviewed participants, and that they cordoned off the area. The death was investigated as a homicide.
The sheriff’s September 1 appeal placed the incident between 8 and 9:30 p.m. in the area between 8 o’clock and I Street and 8:45 and I Street in Black Rock City. The appeal asked people who had been there or passed through to contact the office and reference case 25-318.
Who was the man killed?
The victim was later identified as Vadim Kruglov, 37, from Russia. The sheriff’s initial appeal had sought help identifying him and described an unidentified white adult male estimated to be 35 to 40 years old, about six feet tall and 200 pounds, with short brown hair and facial hair. That was an early description, not a later confirmed identity.

Is the Burning Man homicide solved?
As of KOLO’s September 2, 2026 report, the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office was still working to solve the case, receiving actionable information, and staying in contact with Kruglov’s family. The office was consulting the crime lab about potential suspect DNA profiles.
The report did not identify a suspect, say that a DNA profile had been matched to anyone, or report an arrest. It also did not describe a motive or establish a full sequence of events. A profile being considered is not, by itself, evidence of an identification or a forensic conclusion.

On September 10, 2025, Burning Man Project said it was assisting the sheriff’s investigation and that a combined $10,000 reward had been announced for information leading to an arrest: $5,000 from Secret Witness and another $5,000 from Burning Man Project. Secret Witness’s case notice also solicited information. Reward terms or contact details may change, so check the current official notices before acting.

The sheriff’s September 1, 2025 appeal asked anyone with information to reference PCSO case #25-318 and ask for Investigator Josh Nicholson. It listed 775-273-2641 and 775-273-5111. The appeal said: “At this time, no information is too small to disregard, so do not hesitate to contact my Office.” The statement was signed by Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen. Keep the 2025 homicide separate from later deaths
Burning Man Project’s September 2026 notice discussed three participant deaths at the 2026 event, which it said appeared to be from natural causes pending medical-examiner determinations. It also referred to a sheriff’s investigation into deaths during his tenure. That notice concerns a separate matter; it is not an update on Kruglov’s 2025 homicide.
