The series premiered September 23, 2026; its story about the friends possibly being brothers is fictional and does not establish a real-life family connection.
Who plays McConaughey’s mother in Brothers?
Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac, the mother of McConaughey’s fictionalized character. In Apple’s official announcement, Ma Mac accidentally reveals a long-buried secret that raises the possibility that the two friends might actually be brothers. That is the show’s plot—not a claim about McConaughey and Harrelson’s real families. Apple TV Press announced the casting and premise on June 18, 2026.
What is the comedy about?
Brothers follows fictionalized versions of McConaughey and Harrelson. After Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, Woody brings his family to Matthew’s Austin ranch. The visit turns into a search for the truth behind Ma Mac’s revelation, while Matthew considers a possible run for Texas governor.
The setup combines a family visit, a buried secret and a political ambition. Apple describes the series as an eight-episode comedy.
