Hoda Kotb’s final Today broadcast was Friday, January 10, 2025. During her last Hoda & Jenna segment, a prerecorded message became the emotional center of an hours-long farewell celebration—one that looked back on her 17 years with the program and thanked the viewers who had followed her life and career.
What Hoda Kotb said in her love letter to viewers
Kotb introduced the message as both a love letter and a thank-you note. “This is not a goodbye letter. This is a love letter, a love letter to you,” she said, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
She went on to thank viewers for the affection they had shown her: “It’s actually kind of a thank-you note as well. So how do I say it? How do I say thank you for more hugs and more love than one person deserves?”
Kotb also reflected on the relationship that had developed over years of broadcasting. “Along the way, you invited me into your lives, your triumphs, your special moments and your celebrations. Having a front-row seat to all of this truly helped shape who I am. Thank you so much for letting me be part of your journey.”

How the farewell celebrated her 17 years on Today
Kotb joined the show’s fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford in 2008. She later became a co-host of the main program alongside Savannah Guthrie. News coverage described her Today tenure as 17 years.
The broadcast drew on both parts of that history. In her letter, Kotb recalled arriving from a hard-news background to work with Gifford. She also acknowledged the viewers who had watched her family grow, connecting her personal milestones with the shared experience of morning television.

Why Kotb left the co-host role—and what she said about NBC
In September 2024, Kotb announced that she would leave her co-host role to spend more time with her young children. Her departure from the Today hosting chair was not presented as a complete break with NBC. At the time of its January 2025 report, the Los Angeles Times said Kotb planned to remain connected to NBC, contribute stories to Today, resume her podcast and return to the morning program to cover the Olympics. Those were plans reported at the time, not confirmation of her current schedule.
