Hoda Kotb’s final broadcast as a permanent host of NBC’s Today aired January 10, 2025. The farewell included a studio visit from Kermit the Frog, who sang “Rainbow Connection” to Kotb and her daughters. Kotb cried and sang along.
What happened during Kotb’s final Today broadcast?
Kotb’s goodbye marked a 17-year run on Today, according to The Washington Post. Colleagues and celebrities shared messages during the farewell, and Kermit appeared in the studio for the song.
Kotb’s daughters sat on her lap as Kermit performed “Rainbow Connection,” the song associated with the 1979 film The Muppet Movie. Kotb mouthed the lyrics and wiped away tears, according to Yahoo.
What did Hoda Kotb say to viewers?
Kotb thanked the people who had come to the studio and sent her messages and gifts. ABC Audio quoted her saying: “Can I say thank you to every person who came out here? I read your cards, I got your bracelets, I got the scarves you crocheted, I read the texts, I got everything,” she said. “So, I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for coming out, for being here, and for everything you did. I love you!”
