Were Hilary Farr and David Visentin a couple?
No. HGTV’s description of the hosts’ relationship says that although newcomers might assume they were a couple, their pairing “has always been platonic.” Their playful friction was part of the program’s format: Farr presented renovation plans while Visentin made the case for moving to another home. That on-screen competition is not evidence of a romance.

HGTV’s account of their “tough” love and banter reflects the tone viewers saw, not a claim that they were romantically involved.

HGTV’s behind-the-scenes material calls them “on-set rivals” and includes a quiz about how well they knew one another. It shows a playful working dynamic, but it is not proof of a romantic relationship.
What did they say after Farr left the show?
Farr’s departure was announced in December 2023. In her farewell statement, as quoted by TV Insider, she said: “David and I will remain friends forever and I expect him to be as fabulously and hilariously annoying as ever.”

In 2025, ahead of the show’s next season, Visentin spoke warmly about his former co-host: “You can’t work with somebody for that long and not appreciate them as a human being and have love for them.” He also credited her contribution, saying, “I appreciate everything she gave to this show since 2008. I mean, it got to be where it is because of her.”
In April 2025, Visentin responded playfully to Farr’s social-media post about whether to renovate her Toronto home; Farr replied that he was on her speed dial. These exchanges are public signs of goodwill, not a window into everything they do or feel privately. TV Insider’s 2025 report on whether they are still friends documents those statements.

Why did Hilary Farr leave Love It or List It?
Farr had decided to leave after Season 19, with the departure announced in December 2023. She described wanting new challenges and the strain of the work. She had also spoken about production difficulties, including design constraints, supply-line problems, delays and pandemic-era uncertainty about travel. TV Insider reported that she said the format had begun to feel formulaic and stale.
Those were Farr’s explanations for leaving; they are not evidence that she and Visentin had a personal falling-out. She said she had “always loved working with David.”

What happened to the show after Farr’s exit?
Visentin continued Love It or List It with designer Page Turner in a later chapter of the series. HGTV’s interview with Visentin describes his 17 years on the program and notes that it began in 2008. Farr and Visentin’s long partnership is part of the show’s history, but the series continued with a new designer after her departure.
