Top 10 Denzel Washington movies by worldwide gross

Source for every figure and release year: Box Office Watch’s Denzel Washington box-office table, checked in 2026. Its filmography page covers 39 films released from 1984 through 2024. The figures are nominal: they are not adjusted for inflation.
Why the ranking starts with Gladiator II
Box Office Watch places Gladiator II first at $460.4 million worldwide, well ahead of American Gangster at $270.0 million. A second database, FilmDB, also ranks Gladiator II first and American Gangster second, but reports different totals: $462.2 million and $269.8 million, respectively. Those differences are a reminder that worldwide grosses can vary by database; the table above keeps to one provider rather than mixing figures.

After the top two, the next four films are tightly grouped between $190.4 million and $208.0 million in Box Office Watch’s figures. Their order matters: The Equalizer is listed above The Equalizer 3, which is above The Equalizer 2. The ranking follows the worldwide-gross column, not the order in which films happen to appear in the source’s filmography.
What “highest-grossing” means here
This is a ranking of reported worldwide theatrical gross: the estimated ticket revenue attributed to each film across domestic and international theatrical markets. It is not a ranking by US-only box office, audience size, streaming views, home-video sales, profit, or critical reputation. Because the totals are not adjusted for inflation, older films are not restated in today’s dollars.

Gross is also not profit. Box Office Watch’s production-cost figures, where reported, exclude marketing; comparing gross with production budget alone does not account for distribution expenses, marketing, or a studio’s share of ticket sales. A gross-to-budget multiple should not be read as a profit figure.

Coverage and totals depend on the database. Box Office Watch lists 39 films from 1984–2024 and reports a career worldwide total of $4.70 billion. FilmDB says it tracks 50 matched acting credits with usable worldwide financial data and reports $4.96 billion. Those totals use different film coverage and data collection; they should not be combined or treated as directly comparable.

FilmDB’s totals for individual films also differ modestly from Box Office Watch’s in some cases—for example, it reports $208.1 million for Safe House and $192.3 million for The Equalizer. Its page was checked in 2026, as was Box Office Watch’s; neither figure should be mistaken for a reconciled official total. Database pages can reflect different reporting cutoffs or later revisions.
