She offered the habit as practical advice for anyone appearing on a podcast or speaking to the media. Her account is a recollection of earlier interviews, not an independently verified record of how Preston prepared.
What Heidi Anderson said about Matt Preston
In a PerthNow report published 2 July 2024, Taylor Renouf described Anderson sharing the anecdote on Instagram. Anderson recalled interviewing Preston on her radio show “back in the day.” She said he consistently made the radio hosts feel special, as though he cared about them, followed their show and knew what they were working on. Anderson called him a “true professional.”
Anderson said the attention made interviewing Preston feel like talking to an old friend. The revelation was praise for a thoughtful professional habit—not a scandal or an allegation.
What advice did Anderson offer podcast and media guests?
Anderson’s practical advice was to learn about the host before an appearance and use the host’s name. In the Instagram wording reproduced by PerthNow, she wrote: “USE the host’s name always & stalk them out before you jump on.” In context, her point was to research the host and their work so the conversation feels personal.
#1 Best Overall
That is advice based on Anderson’s experience of interviewing Preston. Her account does not establish that the approach guarantees a better interview; it describes the impression his preparation made on her and the other hosts.
What is known—and what Anderson’s account does not establish
Anderson described the interviews as happening on her radio show “back in the day.” PerthNow did not identify the show or give dates for those conversations. The report quotes her recollection but does not include a recording or a comment from Preston confirming the specific preparation she described, so the details should remain attributed to Anderson.
Rank #2
For context, PerthNow identified Preston as a celebrity chef and former MasterChef judge. A 7 March 2026 Guardian interview describes him as a food writer and former MasterChef Australia judge. Penguin Books Australia’s 6 November 2023 Q&A discusses his memoir, Big Mouth; that publisher page does not say the book contains Anderson’s anecdote.
