HBO Max is the streaming service associated with the Max name transition. Its official explainer says the app experience, programming, plans and pricing were to remain the same as the name changed, but the page does not establish when the transition was completed. US plan prices listed by the service range from $9.99 to $20.99 per month; the shows you can watch and the places where the service is available depend on your market.

How much does HBO Max cost?

The official US plan comparison lists these prices and features. They are the figures shown on that help page, not a guarantee of what checkout will show today. Confirm the price and available plan options with HBO Max or the provider that bills you before subscribing.

Plan Price listed on the US help page Listed features
Basic with Ads $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year Two simultaneous devices; Full HD 1080p
Standard $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year Two simultaneous devices; Full HD 1080p; up to 30 downloads; live sports included
Premium $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year Four simultaneous devices; 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos where available; up to 100 downloads; live sports included

Source: Max Help Center US plan comparison. The page says picture and audio quality depend on availability and download limits apply. A plan’s 4K UHD or Dolby Atmos support does not mean every title is available in those formats.

Which plan fits your viewing?

  • Basic with Ads is the lowest-listed option if ads are acceptable and you do not need the download allowance listed for the other plans.
  • Standard adds downloads and includes live sports on the cited US comparison page, while retaining two simultaneous devices and Full HD.
  • Premium raises the listed simultaneous-device limit to four and includes 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos where available, plus a larger download allowance.

Plans and prices can differ by billing provider. The US help page names Max.com, Amazon Appstore, Apple App Store, Google Play, Prime Video Channels, Roku, Samsung, Cox, Xfinity and Xumo among providers, and says plan availability varies. Check your billing provider before changing or cancelling a subscription.

What shows and movies are on HBO Max?

The US help page describes a catalog spanning HBO series and films, Max Originals, and selected programming from Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network, Harry Potter, Adult Swim, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, Magnolia Network, Discovery, TCM and other brands. It says most new HBO shows and movies are available on the service when they air on HBO. The catalog changes, so a particular title’s availability should be checked in your local app rather than assumed from a brand list.

To browse, use the Series or Movies sections. The help page also points to rows such as Top 10, Just Added and Coming Soon for finding popular or recently added programming.

The official device guide covers phones, tablets, computers, TVs, streaming players, set-top boxes and game consoles. Exact support depends on your country and device model, so check the current country-specific compatibility page before relying on a particular device.

For Amazon Fire TV, the cited guide lists Fire TV devices running Fire OS 5 or later, including Fire TV Stick, Echo Show 15 and smart TVs with Fire TV built in. That guide is localized for Singapore and may not be the current or complete compatibility list for another market.

Where can you watch HBO Max?

Availability is regional, and the catalog may change with your physical location. The official availability result names markets in the United States and its territories, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and says viewers can stream while traveling in an available region. However, that result also contains future-facing rollout language tied to 2025, so it does not establish a complete live list of markets as of October 8, 2026. Check the service’s current country selector or availability page for your location.

The name-transition explainer describes Max becoming HBO Max and says the app experience, programming, plans and pricing were to stay the same during the change. Its wording is future-facing and does not give a completed transition date, so it should not be used to date when the change took effect.
