Its biggest weakness is the process of getting it into those combined forms: a 2022 io9 review found assembly cumbersome and sometimes precarious, especially given the figure’s size and stiff joints.
What the ZAP Dino Megazord is
Hasbro identifies this collectible as model MZ-0101, product F4778. It is a 1:144-scale Lightning Collection ZAP figure for ages 15 and up, based on original concept art. The set includes five individual Zords and ten accessories, requires assembly, and can combine into Tank and Battle modes, according to Hasbro’s product instructions.
That positioning matters: this is not simply a children’s action figure or a display-only statue. Its appeal rests on the individual Zords, their combination, and the finished Megazord as a detailed collectible.
What the review found impressive
James Whitbrook’s io9 review, published August 30, 2022, describes a substantial package and a design that looks colorful and familiar at a distance, with a more modernized level of detail up close. The combined figure’s sleek appearance and sculpted surfaces are among its strongest points.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The component Zords have cockpit ports that open to reveal molded Ranger figures. Hasbro also describes a removable faceplate that reveals sculpted Rangers, translucent elements, and specialized paint techniques. Whitbrook’s review notes that the tiny cockpit figures are unpainted, a detail that becomes more noticeable at close range.
For a combining figure, the Megazord also offers useful articulation. The review found more poseability than expected, though the component-based construction limits its range compared with a figure designed solely as a standalone Megazord.

Where the combination becomes frustrating
Whitbrook found the transformation cumbersome even with the instructions. Stiff joints and the figure’s bulk made assembly feel risky to the reviewer, as though parts might break under pressure. Some pieces could pop off, including the Pterodactyl Zord on the chest.
The optional Tank mode was another concern: the review describes it as precarious, with some joints struggling to support the assembled bulk. These are the reviewer’s hands-on observations, not a measured defect rate or a claim that every set will behave the same way. In practical terms, the toy’s combination feature is rewarding in concept but does not sound especially relaxed or confidence-inspiring to use.

Does it feel worth the premium positioning?
The review’s answer is mixed. Whitbrook praised the detailing and the chrome-plated sword, but felt that the largely flat-plastic finish and close-up details without additional paint treatment did not consistently deliver a premium feel. The unpainted cockpit Rangers reinforce that impression for viewers who expect the small details to be finished as carefully as the overall sculpt.
In its August 30, 2022 review, io9 reported a combined height of just under 12 inches and a price of $165. Those figures describe the product in that 2022 publication context; they are not confirmation of its current price or present retail availability. The review disclosed that io9 received a review copy.

Can it combine with the ZAP Dragonzord?
Yes. Hasbro’s separate Z-0121 ZAP Dragonzord includes 13 accessories and is compatible with the MZ-0101 Dino Megazord. The two can combine into Dragonzord Battle Mode or Mega Dragonzord, according to Hasbro’s Dragonzord instructions. This adds an expansion path for collectors, but it requires buying a separate figure.

The ZAP Dino Megazord reviewed in 2022 is distinct from Hasbro’s later licensing news. On April 22, 2024, Hasbro announced that Playmates Toys would produce and distribute Power Rangers products globally beginning in 2025. Hasbro said Playmates’ first collection would be a kid-targeted Mighty Morphin line spanning categories such as action figures, blasters, plush, role play, vehicles, and accessories; Hasbro retained entertainment rights and strategic oversight. That announcement does not establish a new ZAP Megazord or say that Playmates would continue this collector line.

Quick Recap
Who should consider it
- A good fit: collectors who value a detailed, recognizable Megazord, enjoy combining components, and are willing to handle a large figure carefully.
- A less convincing fit: anyone prioritizing quick, effortless transformations, exceptionally secure posing in every mode, or uniformly painted close-up details.
- For comparisons: look at intended audience and scale, combination forms, assembly confidence, articulation and stability, paint and material finish, included accessories, and the price being offered now. The available review supports a specific assessment of this ZAP set, not a categorical claim that it is better than other Megazords.
