Hasan Piker said he does not plan to run for office. In a WIRED interview published September 9, 2025, he answered “No” when asked whether he thinks about running, then replied “Never, never” to a follow-up. That records his position in that conversation—not a guarantee about every future decision.
What Hasan Piker said about running for office
WIRED global editorial director Katie Drummond asked Piker directly: “Do you think about running for office?” He answered, “No.” When Drummond pressed, “Never,” Piker said, “Never, never.” The exchange appears near the end of their interview, published September 9, 2025. Read the interview in WIRED.
In the same exchange, Piker added: “But there is no media ecosystem that would prop someone like myself up.” That is his own explanation of a barrier he sees; the interview does not establish it as the only reason he would avoid a campaign.
Why he says streaming is his focus
Before Drummond asked about public office, she asked what Piker envisioned for the next phase of his career. He said, “I don’t see myself doing anything other than this anytime soon,” adding that he loves the work, is stubborn, and does not take his good fortune for granted. In context, his answer points to streaming as his near-term focus rather than a move into elected politics.

The conversation also touched on Democrats looking for a media personality like Joe Rogan. Piker argued that Democrats have a political problem that cannot be fixed through marketing alone, saying, “you can’t podcast your way out of this problem.” Those remarks provide context for his views on media and political influence, but they are not a formal statement of every reason he would decline to run.
His media reach, in the context of the interview
WIRED described Piker in 2025 as a Twitch streamer who often discusses and reacts to the news, with nearly 3 million followers on the platform at the time of publication. The figure is dated to that article, not a current count. WIRED also said he had hosted conversations with Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Rank #2
WIRED attributed to Piker a claim that his 2024 election-night stream drew 7.5 million viewers. That number is his claim as reported by WIRED, not an independently audited audience count. The figures illustrate the media platform he was discussing; they do not indicate that he intends to seek office.

The September 2025 exchange is a clear answer about Piker’s stated intentions in that interview. It does not prove that he could never change his mind, nor does it report a candidacy, a campaign plan, or a permanent commitment. The most precise reading is that he said he was not thinking about running and emphatically rejected the idea when asked.

The interview was edited for length and clarity, as WIRED notes. Its published wording supports reporting what Piker said, but not treating the exchange as a prediction about his choices indefinitely.
