Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 has finished principal photography, according to a December 2025 report by TrekCore quoting a wrap post from writer-producer Bill Wolkoff. The update was not announced by a showrunner: Paramount had confirmed in October that the fifth and final season was in production, but the wrap post cited in the later report came from Wolkoff.
When did Season 5 finish filming?
TrekCore reported on December 21, 2025, that principal photography ended Friday night. The article reproduced a December 20 wrap post by writer-producer Bill Wolkoff: “And that’s a wrap of principal photography for Strange New Worlds! It’s been an honor to write for all five seasons of this show. Maybe weird to be writing this when we still have two more seasons coming out? They’re good I hope you’ll watch no I don’t know when they’ll air xo??” (TrekCore’s report).
That wording matters: principal photography is the filming stage. The wrap report described post-production as the work remaining; it did not mean the episodes were finished or ready to stream.
Was the wrap announcement from a showrunner?
No. Wolkoff is identified in the report as a writer-producer, not one of the series’ co-showrunners. The show’s co-showrunners are Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers. Paramount’s earlier October 11, 2025 announcement confirmed that Season 5 was in production, but it did not announce the wrap (Paramount’s production update).

In a September 24, 2026 interview, Myers discussed how the team adapted the Season 4 finale after learning the series would continue. That is context about the story and final season, not a new filming update. Myers said the finale was first developed when the team did not know whether there would be another season: “We didn’t know if we would have another season when we first started breaking the idea for the episode, and the goal was to deal with the present and the future and think about how these things are going to connect and tell that story.” (TV Insider interview).
What is confirmed about the final season?
- It is the final season: Paramount announced on June 12, 2025 that the series would end with Season 5.
- It has six episodes: the episode count was included in Paramount’s announcement.
- Production was underway by October 11, 2025: Paramount said Season 4 had wrapped production and Season 5 was in production.
- Principal photography had wrapped by December 2025: TrekCore reported the end of filming, citing Wolkoff’s post.
Paramount’s final-season announcement also named Goldsman and Myers as co-showrunners. TV Guide had previously reported that production was scheduled to begin September 15, 2025, based on an interview with the co-showrunners; that was a reported plan, rather than an independently confirmed Paramount start date (TV Guide’s interview).

When will Season 5 premiere?
No premiere date is confirmed in the cited official announcements. TrekCore described 2027 as a presumptive release window, not a confirmed date, so it should not be treated as an announced premiere year. Paramount Global Content lists the series as a Paramount+ title and gives July 23, 2026 as the Season 4 premiere date, but its official series page does not establish when Season 5 will be available.
