Harry Connick Jr. welcomed Super Bowl LIX viewers to New Orleans with a Mardi Gras-themed performance built around marching bands, dancing and song. As it began, the New Orleans native invited the crowd to celebrate the city’s music and culture.
What Connick did during the welcome
The Associated Press described Connick’s segment as a Mardi Gras-themed welcome, with live marching bands, dancing and song. He addressed both the stadium crowd and the television audience as the performance opened: “How y’all feeling, baby? Let’s celebrate some New Orleans music and culture at Super Bowl 59.”
The invitation made the segment more than a greeting: it presented the game’s host city through the sounds and celebratory spirit closely associated with New Orleans. The reported details establish the format and Connick’s words, but do not identify a set list or quantify the segment’s audience.
When and where it happened
Super Bowl LIX took place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, 2025, and aired live on FOX, according to the NFL’s pregame announcement. Connick’s welcome was part of the pregame setting, before the game itself.

How Connick’s segment fit the wider pregame
The NFL framed the pregame lineup as a celebration of the musical legacy of New Orleans and Louisiana. Its announcement named Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty, Lauren Daigle and Ledisi for other pregame performances. Those acts were separate from Connick’s Mardi Gras-themed welcome as described by AP; they should not be folded into his segment.
The broader framing was explicit in NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky’s statement: “We’re honored to work with this year’s pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state,” the NFL announcement said.

The city’s Super Bowl week beyond the stadium
New Orleans & Company said the 2025 game was the city’s 11th Super Bowl, tying the previous record for a host city. Its recap reported that an estimated 127.7 million viewers watched Super Bowl LIX, citing Nielsen; that is a game broadcast figure, not a measured audience for Connick’s welcome. The source described it as the largest audience for a Super Bowl and single-network telecast at that time. New Orleans & Company’s event recap provides that context.
The city also listed public activities during Super Bowl week. A February 4 bulletin from the City of New Orleans named the Super Bowl Experience, Louisiana Culture Festival and a free Warehouse District street party. These were historical event listings for that week, not current event recommendations.
