Spoilers for all eight episodes of Netflix’s Run Away. Ingrid Greene killed Aaron Corval. Paige is alive: after leaving rehab and returning to Aaron, she eventually goes back to treatment and comes home. Shining Haven is the commune linked to the Beacon of the Shining Truth, whose leader’s hidden sons become targets in a succession cover-up. The final family revelation is that Aaron and Paige were maternal half-siblings—and Ingrid did not know Aaron was her son when she killed him.
Who killed Aaron Corval?
Ingrid killed Aaron. Simon is an obvious early suspect after their public altercation, while Paige, Cornelius, and the assassins Ash and Dee Dee further muddy the case. But Ingrid ultimately tells Simon she killed Aaron to protect Paige from his abuse and the cycle of drug use surrounding their relationship. Netflix Tudum’s Jan. 5, 2026 ending explainer and TV Insider’s recap identify Ingrid as the killer.
Ash and Dee Dee were not responsible for Aaron’s death. They had been sent to kill him as part of a separate effort to eliminate Casper Vartage’s hidden biological sons, but they arrived after Aaron was already dead.
Where is Paige?
Paige is alive. She is in rehab while Simon searches for her, but she had not been there continuously: she previously left treatment and returned to Aaron. She had told Ingrid about her drug use and her wish to get away from Aaron, but hid this from Simon because she feared disappointing him. Aaron had found her at rehab before, secretly supplied her with drugs, and drawn her back into the relationship.

Young followers who gave birth to those other sons were told their babies were stillborn. Instead, the boys were placed for adoption. As the grown sons began finding one another through genealogy sites, the cult feared that the truth would be exposed and that its succession arrangement would be challenged. Ash and Dee Dee were dispatched to kill the hidden sons.
The series ties the assassination plot to the cult’s secrecy and succession, but does not fully define every part of its doctrine. Netflix uses “Shining Haven” in its episode summaries; Tudum refers to both the commune and the Beacon of the Shining Truth.

How are Aaron and Paige related?
Aaron and Paige are maternal half-siblings. They share Ingrid as their mother, and The One was their biological father. Ingrid had been told that the baby she gave birth to was stillborn, so she did not know Aaron was her son when she killed him.
Paige tells Simon the truth and asks him not to tell Ingrid. The family reunites, but Simon is left with the choice of whether to keep that secret from his wife.

Who dies in the finale?
These are the deaths most relevant to the ending; they are not an exhaustive count of every death in the wider story.
- Aaron Corval: Ingrid kills him, not Ash and Dee Dee.
- Ash: He dies in the shootout at the estate. TV Insider identifies Cornelius as the person who kills him.
- Dee Dee: Mother Adiona pushes her from a building as she is about to finish off Simon.
- Elena Ravenscroft: Ash and Dee Dee lure her into a trap and kill her.
- Rocco and Luther: Both die during the estate confrontation. Luther had earlier seen Ingrid at Aaron’s apartment, helping set up the confrontation.
Simon, Paige, Cornelius, and Ingrid survive. Ingrid recovers from the coma after being shot. These outcomes are detailed in Netflix Tudum’s explainer and cross-checked against TV Insider.

What does Simon’s final look mean?
The plot leaves Simon’s next move unresolved. Paige asks him to keep Aaron’s parentage from Ingrid, and the last shot holds on Simon looking into the camera rather than showing what he decides. James Nesbitt, who plays Simon, told Tudum that the look is as if to ask, “What do I do now?” Head writer Danny Brocklehurst said the ending leaves room for viewers’ own opinions. That makes the final moment an invitation to interpret Simon’s choice—not a confirmed reveal that he will tell or conceal the truth.
Creator Harlan Coben describes the secret’s lasting weight this way: “That’s going to haunt them the rest of their lives, both of them.” The series is a Netflix limited series of eight episodes; its finale is titled “It Stays With Us.”
Is Run Away based on a book?
Yes. Netflix classifies the series as based on a book, and TV Insider identifies the source as Coben’s 2019 novel, also titled Run Away. The novel is the source material, but a television adaptation can differ from the book.
