Har Ghar Tiranga is a Ministry of Culture campaign encouraging people to bring India’s National Flag home and hoist it as a personal expression of connection to the country. What Har Ghar Tiranga means
Launched in 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Har Ghar Tiranga aims to build a personal connection with the National Flag and awareness of its significance. The Ministry of Culture is the campaign’s nodal ministry. Campaign dates and theme
The 2026 observance took place from 9 to 17 August and was dedicated to the spirit of Vande Mataram, according to the Government of India’s 2026 launch announcement. Those dates are past. The dates and theme for a future edition should be confirmed through the Ministry of Culture’s campaign information rather than assumed from the 2026 schedule.
How to participate
- Hoist the National Flag at home in accordance with the Flag Code of India, 2002.
- Join local or community activities associated with the campaign.
- If you wish, upload a selfie with the Tiranga through the official campaign portal.
These are participation options; the campaign sources do not say that purchasing a flag or uploading a selfie is compulsory.

Choose a flag that meets the official specification
The Flag Code says the National Flag is rectangular and must have a length-to-width ratio of 3:2; it may be any size. Permitted materials include hand-spun and hand-woven or machine-made cotton, polyester, wool, silk, or khadi bunting. When buying a flag, check the seller’s stated dimensions and material rather than assuming a listing complies or is government-approved. Display the Tiranga respectfully
Display and use of the National Flag are governed by the Flag Code of India, 2002 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The Code says a flag displayed outdoors or on a member of the public’s house may be flown day and night.

- Give the flag a position of honour and keep it in good condition; do not display it if damaged or dishevelled.
- Do not fly it from a single masthead at the same time as another flag.
- Do not place another flag or bunting above or beside it.
