The watch in this title is the Hamilton Khaki Field Murph Auto 42 mm, reference H70605731. It is Hamilton’s commercial recreation of the watch worn by Murph Cooper in Interstellar, not the actual custom prop used in the film. Hamilton lists the model in its current collection.
What watch does Murph wear in Interstellar?
It is a Hamilton Khaki Field Murph. The 42 mm commercial version, H70605731, arrived in 2019, five years after the film’s 2014 release, according to Hamilton’s September 19, 2024 press release. Hamilton says the screen-used watch began as a custom prop; the watch sold to consumers is a recreation.

What the features mean
The H-10 is an automatic movement: movement of the wrist winds it, and Hamilton’s stated 80-hour reserve describes how long it can run when fully wound without further winding. Hamilton describes the sapphire crystal as scratch-resistant and says Nivachron is designed to resist magnetic fields and reduce the effects of temperature changes and shocks. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not a guarantee that the watch cannot be scratched or affected by those conditions.

The 38 mm model’s figures come from Hamilton’s H70405730 product listing. The 42 mm model has 22 mm lugs; do not assume a 20 mm strap for the 38 mm version will fit it. Check strap width and attachment compatibility against the exact reference before buying a replacement.
Diameter alone does not determine how a watch feels on the wrist. Hodinkee’s hands-on coverage concerns a white-dial 38 mm variation, not this 42 mm reference. Its reviewer said that version wore larger than its dimensions suggested despite a 44.7 mm lug-to-lug measurement. That is one reviewer’s impression of a related watch, not a fit finding for the H70605731. For the 42 mm, the listed 53 mm lug-to-lug measurement is an additional dimension to consider alongside the case diameter.

Is the 42 mm Murph the right version to consider?
Choose the H70605731 if you specifically want the larger 42 mm commercial Murph and its 22 mm strap width. The 38 mm H70405730 offers the same listed movement, reserve, crystal type, and water-resistance rating in a smaller-diameter case with 20 mm lugs. Hamilton’s “This is the moment fans of the movie Interstellar have been waiting for” is promotional language from its product page, rather than an independent assessment of the watch.
