The claims are allegations, not court findings. Hallmark denied them in a statement to The Associated Press.
What Penny Perry alleges
According to The Associated Press’s October 25, 2024, account of the complaint, Perry was 79 when she filed suit. She alleges Hallmark fired her because of her age despite what she described as strong performance reviews. The complaint also alleges disability-related harassment tied to her relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
AP reported that the complaint attributes age-related comments to Hallmark programming executive Lisa Hamilton Daly. It alleges Daly said the network needed to replace “old talent,” and made remarks about actresses Lacey Chabert and Holly Robinson Peete, including that Chabert was “getting older” and Peete was “getting too old” for leading roles. The complaint also reportedly says Daly described Perry as too “long in the tooth” to keep her job.
The complaint further alleges programming executive Randy Pope mocked Perry for mispronouncing words or names, which Perry connects to symptoms of her MS. The remarks are allegations reported from the complaint, not findings that a court has established.

Hallmark’s response
Hallmark denied the allegations in a statement to AP. The company said: “Hallmark continues to consistently cast and maintain positive, productive relationships with talented actors representing a broad spectrum of diversity, including actors who span many age groups and cross generations.”
Addressing the actresses named in the complaint, the company said: “Lacey and Holly have a home at Hallmark.” Hallmark also said it generally does not comment on pending litigation and would not discuss an employment relationship in the media.

What the lawsuit does—and does not—say about the actresses
Chabert and Peete are mentioned in the reported allegations about comments attributed to Daly. The lawsuit described in AP’s report is Perry’s employment case; the coverage does not say that either actress brought a claim in it. AP’s contemporaneous report listed their ages as 42 and 60, respectively, at the time.
AP also quoted the complaint’s characterization of Hallmark’s “happy endings” as “stories made for TV only.” That is the plaintiff’s language in the pleading, not a court’s conclusion.

Case status and a separate Hallmark ruling
The reports cited here establish that Perry filed her lawsuit on October 9, 2024, and describe the claims and Hallmark’s response. They do not establish a later outcome or procedural status, so the case should not be described as settled, dismissed, or decided on that basis.
A federal order dated September 9, 2026, in Stump v. Hallmark Retail, LLC is a different matter. It concerns Nancy Stump, Hallmark Retail, and an employment dispute sent to arbitration; the court confirmed an arbitration award for Hallmark Retail and denied Stump’s motion to vacate. It is not a ruling in Perry’s Los Angeles case.
