Tokyo’s closing ceremony had taken place three years earlier, on August 8, 2021.
Which Olympics closing ceremony featured H.E.R.?
H.E.R.’s announced performance was part of the Paris 2024 closing ceremony. In an announcement published August 11, 2024, NBCUniversal named H.E.R. among the scheduled performers and said she “will sing the National Anthem at Stade de France.” The announcement also listed Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers as performers. NBCUniversal’s announcement
The wording matters: NBCUniversal’s sentence calls it “the National Anthem” but does not identify the song as the U.S. national anthem. The announcement alone therefore supports saying H.E.R. was slated to sing the National Anthem at the Paris ceremony, not specifying the song’s title or country.
Why is Tokyo 2020 sometimes confused with the announcement?
Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 were separate Olympic editions. Tokyo’s closing ceremony took place on August 8, 2021. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced that Team USA athlete Kara Winger would serve as the flag bearer for that ceremony. USOPC’s August 6, 2021 announcement
