H.E.R. sang the patriotic song before Super Bowl LV on Sunday, February 7, 2021. The game took place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay. The NFL’s official performance listing identifies her rendition as a pregame performance.

Was it a pregame performance or the halftime show?
It was part of the pregame program, not the halftime show. The NFL’s pregame announcement lists H.E.R.’s performance alongside Warren “Wawa” Snipe’s American Sign Language performance of “America the Beautiful.” The Weeknd headlined the separate halftime show.
What did H.E.R. say about her Super Bowl performance?
In an Entertainment Tonight interview published February 3, 2021, H.E.R. said she wanted to make the familiar song her own and bring different elements to it. She also spoke about preparing for a stage she described as exceptionally large and about what the opportunity could signify for young Black women.

“It’s a huge stage and it doesn’t get any bigger, you know? But I think the goal, for me, is to make [the song] my own.”
She connected the performance to representation, saying, “I think it’s a message to other young Black women that you can do it too.” In the same interview, she discussed playing guitar on the broadcast and her collaboration with Fender, describing representation as part of what made that moment meaningful.

Contemporaneous Guitar.com coverage identified the instrument as H.E.R.’s signature Fender Stratocaster. The NFL’s official video listing confirms the performance but does not identify the guitar, so the instrument identification comes from Guitar.com’s coverage. That report does not establish that the exact performance configuration is currently available for sale.
