Reports described the car’s “HITMAN” plate as a reference to professional wrestler Bret Hart; they did not establish that Anderson intended it as a comment on Blanchard’s case.
Who picked Gypsy Rose up from prison?
Anderson picked up Blanchard after her release from Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri on December 28, 2023. People reported that she left at about 3:30 a.m. local time, citing confirmation of the time from the Missouri Department of Corrections. Scripps News, crediting the Springfield News-Leader and the Associated Press, also reported that Anderson collected her in a Cadillac.
Why did the license plate say “HITMAN”?
The reports identified the plate as a Bret Hart wrestling reference. Hart is known by the nickname “The Hitman,” which explains the wording without requiring a connection to Blanchard’s case. The plate’s timing and wording struck some observers as jarring given the circumstances, but that reaction is not evidence of Anderson’s intent.
Neither the reports from People and Salon nor the Scripps News account establishes why Anderson chose the plate. It would be speculation to say it was meant to mock, threaten, or comment on the case.

Salon described her as having served 85% of her sentence. Those are the respective outlets’ descriptions; they should not be combined or treated as a recalculation of one another.
Scripps News also reported that Blanchard and Anderson had connected through letters while she was incarcerated and married in July 2022. Anderson was her husband at the time of the 2023 pickup; the reporting cited here does not establish their current relationship status.
