Paltrow guest-starred as substitute teacher Holly Holliday in five episodes of Glee, the series co-created by Falchuk. They met while both were still married: Paltrow to musician Chris Martin and Falchuk to television producer Suzanne Bukinik. Falchuk later recalled that they became friends on set after finding common ground. Their meeting was professional, not the start of their romance. 2014: They began dating
Their romantic relationship began in 2014, after Paltrow and Martin had separated. TIME’s People-sourced report places the start of their dating in August. This is the key distinction in the timeline: the two had known each other for several years before they became a couple.
April 2015: Their first public appearance as a couple
Paltrow and Falchuk attended Robert Downey Jr.’s 50th birthday party together in April 2015. TIME, citing People, identifies the event as their public debut. Later that year, Falchuk described the relationship to People as going “very great.” Asked about Paltrow, he also said, “She’s awesome. That’s what everybody loves about her.”

November 2017–January 2018: Engagement reported, then confirmed
Reports of the engagement surfaced in November 2017, after roughly three years of dating, according to Vogue’s wedding coverage. Paltrow confirmed it on January 8, 2018, in Goop magazine’s Sex & Love issue. Reflecting on trying love again at midlife, she wrote, “At midlife, I have tried to accept how complex romantic love can be. I have decided to give it a go again.”
The couple’s joint statement, quoted by Vogue, said: “We feel incredibly lucky to have come together at this juncture in our lives, when our collective successes and failures can serve as building blocks for a healthy and happy relationship.”
September 29, 2018: They married in the Hamptons
Paltrow and Falchuk married at her home in the Hamptons on September 29, 2018. Vogue reported that about 70 friends and family members attended the private ceremony. Paltrow wore a lace Valentino gown and changed into a Stella McCartney jumpsuit later in the evening. The couple took a small post-wedding trip to Umbria and Paris. It was the second marriage for both.
Their children from their previous marriages became part of the family they were building together: Paltrow and Martin have Apple and Moses, while Falchuk and Bukinik have Brody and Isabella. Vogue’s wedding feature covers the ceremony and family context.

2019 onward: Adjusting to life as a blended family
Paltrow told InStyle that she and Falchuk waited a year after the wedding before moving in together, giving everyone in the family time to adjust. These comments describe the adjustment period she discussed publicly; they do not establish the couple’s present living arrangements. The report is a secondary account of the post, but it is the latest located public indication that they continued to present themselves as married at that date. Geo News’s anniversary report dates the milestone to September 29, 2026.
